Cognitive impairment often impacts quality of life in epilepsy even if seizures are controlled. Word-finding difficulty is particularly prevalent and attributed to etiological (static, baseline) circuit alterations. We sought determine whether interictal discharges convey significant superimposed contributions word-finding patients, so, through which cognitive mechanism(s).
Music has the ability to evoke a wide variety of emotions in human listeners. Research shown that treatment for depression and mental health disorders is significantly more effective when it complemented by music therapy. However, because each experiences music-induced differently, there no systematic way accurately predict how people will respond different types at an individual level. In this experiment, model created humans’ emotional responses from both their...
INTRODUCTION: Electrocorticography (ECoG) enables the localization of epileptic seizure foci prior to surgical resection. Improving signal-to-noise ratio is paramount, and can be accomplished with bipolar re-referencing. METHODS: Intracranial recordings for drug-resistant epilepsy were performed at UCSF using high-density ECoG grid (4 mm inter-electrode pitch), strip (10 mm), penetrating depth (5 mm) electrodes. Raw voltages each participant (n = 11) systematically re-referenced (bipolar...
