Transcription factors that drive neuron type-specific terminal differentiation programs in the developing nervous system are often expressed several distinct neuronal cell types, but to what extent they have similar or activities individual types is generally not well explored. We investigate this problem using, as a starting point, C. elegans LIM homeodomain transcription factor ttx-3, which acts selector program of cholinergic AIY interneuron class. Using panel different markers, including...

Recent progress revealed the complexity of RNA processing and its association to human disorders. Here, we unveil a new facet this complexity. Complete loss function ubiquitous splicing factor SFPQ affects zebrafish motoneuron differentiation cell autonomously. In addition nuclear localization, protein unexpectedly localizes motor axons. The cytosolic version abolishes axonal defects, rescuing key transcripts, restores motility in paralyzed sfpq null mutants, indicating non-nuclear role...

We report six cases of Dermatobia hominis myiasis imported into the U.K. from Belize. With increasing international travel, may be encountered more frequently in countries which parasites are not indigenous. The life-cycle D. is described, and scanning electron micrographs show detailed appearance larva.

Abstract Loss of SFPQ is a hallmark motor degeneration in ALS and prevents maturation neurons when occurring during embryogenesis. Here, we show that zebrafish, developing lacking exhibit axon extension, branching synaptogenesis defects, prior to degeneration. Subcellular transcriptomics reveals loss produces complex set aberrant intron-retaining (IR) transcripts coding for neuron-specific proteins accumulate neurites. Some these local IR mRNAs are prematurely terminated within the retained...

Forty-eight patients (23 male, 25 female) with severe alopecia areata were sensitized and treated topical diphencyprone. Thirty-eight per cent of the subjects had good regrowth hair at a mean follow-up period 30.8 months. The presence nail changes, personal history atopy long duration an adverse prognostic effect.

Little population-based data has been published about skin cancers in children and young adults. In this study, 200 cases of melanoma non-melanoma diagnosed under 25 years age the North England from 1968–1995 were obtained Northern Region Young Persons' Malignant Disease Registry. The incidence was 1.2 per million year for (aged 0–14 years) 13 adults 15–24 years). Abstract The RNA-binding protein SFPQ plays an important role in neuronal development and has been associated with several neurodegenerative disorders, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), frontotemporal dementia (FTD), Alzheimer’s disease. Here, we report that loss of sfpq leads to premature termination multiple transcripts due widespread activation previously unannotated cryptic last exons (CLEs). These SFPQ-inhibited CLEs appear preferentially long introns genes functions can...

Regulation of pre-mRNA splicing and polyadenylation plays a profound role in neurons by diversifying the proteome modulating gene expression response to physiological cues. Although most processing is thought occur nucleus, numerous regulators are also found neurites. Here, we show that U1-70K/SNRNP70, component major spliceosome, localizes RNA-associated granules zebrafish axons. We identify extra-nuclear SNRNP70 as an important regulator motor axonal growth, nerve-dependent acetylcholine...

All were systemically unwell required hospitalization control the disease flare.
