In the interval between 1983 and 1988,14 patients were treated for pyogenic spondylitis complicated by neurologic compromise. There nine males five females aged 39–80 years. The average time onset of symptoms diagnosis was 2.8 months. Predisposing factors diabetes mellitus in four urinary tract infections patients. infection blood borne all 14 two patients, superimposed on a recent vertebral fracture. cervical spine involved one patient; thoracic seven; lumbar six Six presented with Frankel...

In a prospective study, the authors evaluated usefulness of bone scintigraphy in work-up young military personnel with lumbar spondylolysis and persistent low back pain. Ten out 23 spondylolytic individuals recent history pain had positive scintigrams, none group painless scans. We believe these results indicate that is value determining whether individual can be attributed to physical exertion or specific traumatic incident.

Background: Failed manipulative reduction of avulsion fractures the tibial insertion anterior cruciate ligament has been attributed to interposition soft tissues, particularly horn medial meniscus. The objectives present report were (1) show that failure reduce Meyers and McKeever type-III eminence was not due tissues (2) discuss relevance finding third lateral meniscus attached avulsed site in all patients studied. Methods: Twelve who had a failed fracture underwent arthroscopic fixation...

A consecutive series is reported of 17 patients who underwent early surgical treatment for acetabular or unstable pelvic fractures associated with ipsilateral the femur. Treatment included external and internal fixation, required careful consideration approach positioning patient. The multiple injuries sustained by these simultaneous procedures several teams. All femoral were internally fixed at initial operation eight had primary definitive all their other as well. In nine was delayed an...

Severe crush injuries with compartment syndrome were treated in five patients by an immediate one-stage procedure. This procedure included the assessment of skin flap viability accurate debridement devascularized tissues. It was performed according to split-thickness excision technique. Compartment pressures measured and fasciotomies through open wounds or separate medial lateral incisions. The incision extended release tarsal tunnel. Fractures reduced internally fixed exposed bones covered...

Our prospective study evaluates the use of a knee brace with silicon patellar support ring as method preventing anterior pain from developing in young persons undergoing strenuous physical exercise. We studied 60 athletes, who qualified for training course and had not suffered previously. Twenty-seven subjects were group 33 nonbrace control group. The incidence syndrome increased intensity exertion progressed; i.e., ran 6 km 1st week, gradually increasing each week up to 42 km/week at 8th...

Split-thickness skin excision can be used as a one-stage procedure for the accurate diagnosis of flap viability and immediate treatment friction-avulsion injuries in severe open fractures. After cleaning wound, avulsed is temporarily sutured back to its original bed split thickness graft taken from it meshed 1:3 ratio. Surface dermal capillary bleeding then serves an indicator viability, clearly displaying line devascularized correlating well with concomitant fluorescein test. The wounds are...

Abstract The aim of this study was to determine whether there are quantitative changes in the innervation anterior cruciate ligament osteoarthritis. Eleven whole ligaments were obtained at autopsy from cadavera individuals with advanced osteoarthritis; five healthy used as controls. transected and stained hematoxylin eosin, oil red O for fat, a modification Gairn's gold chloride method. latter stain permits visualization axons, mechanoreceptors, free nerve endings that not apparent on...

Shrapnel injuries in soft tissues often do not require surgical excision. Metals that remain embedded the surrounding tissue are thought to cause significant damage and patients generally asymptomatic. This case presentation describes a patient who sustained penetrating shrapnel injury his thigh, where metal fragment was removed. However, more than 20 years later, developed knee synovitis. On X-ray seen suprapatellar pouch. An arthroscopy preformed removed with full healing of patient....

In each case, ACL envelope was documented as follows: (1) vascular, where covered with blood vessels along its entire length; (2) centrally avascular, central third not but peripheral vascularized coverage present; (3) there no vessel ACL.
