The roles of salicylic acid (SA) and H 2 O in the induction PR proteins tobacco have been examined. Studies were conducted on wild‐type plants engineered to express a bacterial salicylate hydroxylase capable metabolizing SA catechol (SH‐L plants). Wild‐type PR‐1a—GUS‐transformed PR‐1a following challenge with Pseudomonas syringae pathovar , or 2,6‐dichloro‐isonicotinic (INA). In contrast, SH‐L failed respond but did INA treatment. irreversible catalase inhibitor 3‐amino‐1,2,4‐triazole (3‐AT)...

To investigate the role of salicylic acid (SA) in hypersensitive response (HR) its accumulation was compromised during different phases lesion development by differential expression a salicylate hydroxylase gene (SH-L). Constitutive suppression SA achieved fusion between CaMV35S promoter (35S) and SH-L. Using H2O2-responsive AoPR1 to drive SH-L could be at an early stage, on formation possibly prior visible necrosis, whilst use salicylate-responsive PR1a reduced later stage as lesions...
