Quantization of ion microprobe mass spectrometric analyses has been complicated by the variation in yield an element contained different matrices. This work demonstrates that, for O− and Cs+ bombardment, these ion-yield variations are solely attributable to matrix sputtering yield. It is argued that determines near-surface concentration ion-yield-enhancing species O Cs.

Carbon cluster ions with a double negative charge, and lifetimes of at least 10 \ensuremath{\mu}s, have been produced by sputtering graphite, observed in double-focusing mass spectrometer. Ions as small ${\mathrm{C}}_{7}^{2\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$ detected. The intensities the doubly charged clusters (${\mathrm{C}}_{\mathit{n}}^{2\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$ where n=7--28) follow an alternating pattern, even-n being more intense than neighboring odd-n clusters. In contrast, singly are odd n...

A number of minor and trace elements including Be, C, Ca, Cr, K, Li, Mn, Na, P, Pb, S, Tl, V, Zn present in coal fly ash are found to be preferentially concentrated on the particle surfaces. Environmentally effective concentrations these thus much higher than indicated by conventional bulk analyses.

The use of a laser as tool for annealing ion-implantation damage is described. principal results obtained are follows: (1) electrical measurements show that activity comparable to 1000 °C 30-min anneal can be obtained; (2) TEM complete recrystallization the damaged layer occurs during anneal; (3) impurity profiles from SIMS measurments dopant atoms remain in LSS profile annealing. Simple diodes were fabricated examine feasibility method device fabrication.

Secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) is a technique for surface and thin-film analysis with long history mature instrumental base dating from the early 1960s, which nevertheless has only recently achieved broad credibility as an analytical technique.
