We report a combined experimental and computational study of several ruthenium(II) sensitizers originated from the [Ru(dcbpyH2)2(NCS)2], N3, [Ru(dcbpyH2)(tdbpy)(NCS)2], N621, (dcbpyH2 = 4,4'-dicarboxy-2,2'-bipyridine, tdbpy 4,4'-tridecyl-2,2'-bipyridine) complexes. A purification procedure was developed to obtain pure N-bonded isomers both types sensitizers. The photovoltaic data purified N3 N621 adsorbed on TiO2 films in their monoprotonated diprotonated state, exhibited remarkable power...
The aim of this work was to investigate the influence morphology on its electrochemical properties by comparing ZnO nanostructures in forms tetrapods different sizes, nanorods, and nanoparticles. were prepared combustion method separated into two fractions size, ruling out synthesis conditions. Structural morphological nanostructure morphologies identified using various characterization techniques: scanning transmission electron microscopies (SEM TEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD),...

A ruthenium complex trans-[Ru(L)(NCS)2], L = 4,4' ''-di-tert-butyl-4',4' '-bis(carboxylic acid)-2,2':6',2' ':6' ',2' ''-quaterpyridine (N886), was synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic electrochemical methods. The absorption spectrum of the N886 shows metal-to-ligand charge-transfer transitions in entire visible region quasi-reversible oxidation reduction potentials at E1/2 +0.38 −1.92 V vs ferrocene, respectively. electronic spectra were calculated density functional theory...
The investigation of innovative electrolytes based on nontoxic and nonflammable solvents is an up-to-date, intriguing challenge to push forward the environmental sustainability dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Water one best choices, thus 100% aqueous are proposed in this work, which gelled with xanthan gum. This well-known biosourced polymer matrix able form stable easily processable hydrogel iodide/triiodide redox couple. An experimental strategy, also supported by multivariate...
The chemistry behind the I−/I3−redox couple is thoroughly investigated in 100% aqueous dye-sensitized solar cells, paving way to this emerging green PV technology.
Redox mediators based on cobalt complexes allowed dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) to achieve efficiencies exceeding 14%, thus challenging the emerging class of perovskite cells. Unfortunately, cobalt-based electrolytes demonstrate much lower long-term stability trends if compared traditional iodide/triiodide redox couple. In view large-scale commercialization DSCs, scientific community has recently proposed various approaches and materials increase these devices, which comprise gelling...
Aqueous dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are emerging as the first truly safe, cheap and eco-friendly photovoltaic technology, at same time overcoming well-known instability upon moisture/water contamination typical of many cells.
Three-dimensional printing (3DP) is considered among the key-technologies for next industrial revolution, with considerable effects on production processes, economy, and society. In this context, most relevant part of market consists polymeric 3D printing. The printable liquids are composed various components, them dyes usually underrated because they introduced merely aesthetical reasons or to enhance objects' resolution. recent years, capability specific go beyond conventional use confer...
Abstract Polymethine dyes as photosensitizers for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs) are reviewed. The review provides a summary of design strategies, the main synthetic routes, and optical photovoltaic properties polymethine applied in hybrid photovoltaics. In particular, we focus on cyanine squaraine their structure–properties relationships, highlighting role active molecule device performance.
Aqueous dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are emerging as a promising alternative to enhance both the lifetime and environmental friendliness of traditional DSSCs. Herein, cobalt‐based, jellified (with xanthan gum) aqueous electrolyte, leading valuable efficiency exceeding 4% ( V OC = 847 mV, J SC 6.73 mA cm −2 , fill factor 74%), is reported. Design experiment used precisely significantly study, at multivariate level, effects produced by Co 2+ concentration, /Co 3+ ratio, gum amount...
A symmetric squaraine and its related non-symmetric structure are shown to have comparable efficiencies in DSCs, but with undoubtedly advantages the low cost easiness of synthesis for symmetrical structure.
Abstract O'Regan and Grätzel conceived a dye‐sensitized solar cell (DSSC), which operates as an artificial photosynthetic system converting light into electricity. Nevertheless, it is only recently that the scientific community focusing on truly aqueous DSSCs use water electrolyte, thus avoiding any flammable toxic organic solvents. The most critical aspect of these devices photoanode/electrolyte interface. Indeed, necessary to select dyes chemisorb onto semiconductor layer while allowing...
A microwave-assisted method for the preparation of a wide color range 2,3,3-trimethylindolenine-based squaraines and their intermediates is described. This practical approach allows rapid both symmetrical nonsymmetrical squaraine dyes, reducing reaction time from days to minutes with more than 2-fold improvement in product yields when compared conventional methods.
The commercialization of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has seen an important limitation in the instability that afflicts hole-transporting layer (HTL), namely, spiro-OMeTAD, used high-efficiency devices. latter is, turn, relatively expensive, undermining sustainability device. Its replacement with polymeric scaffolds, such as poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT), will solve these issues. In this work, we adopted various sustainable synthetic methods to obtain four different homemade P3HTs molecular...
