To address the limited tumor penetration of nanoparticle drug delivery vehicles, we report first pH-responsive polypeptide micelle that dissociates at low extracellular pH solid tumors. This histidine-rich elastin-like block copolymer self-assembles 37 °C into spherical micelles are stabilized by Zn2+ and disrupted as drops from 7.4 to 6.4. These pH-sensitive demonstrate better in vivo distribution tumors than a pH-insensitive control.
This study describes the design and synthesis of amphiphilic silica nanoparticles for stabilization aqueous drops in fluorinated oils applications droplet microfluidics. The success microfluidics has thus far relied on one type surfactant drops. However, surfactants are known to have two key limitations: (1) interdrop molecular transport leads cross-contamination contents, (2) incompatibility with growth adherent mammalian cells as liquid–liquid interface is too soft cell adhesion. use...
We present BVRI and unfiltered light curves of 93 Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) from the Lick Observatory Supernova Search (LOSS) follow-up program conducted between 2005 2018. Our sample consists 78 spectroscopically normal SNe Ia, with remainder divided distinct subclasses (three SN 1991bg-like, three 1991T-like, four Iax, two peculiar, super-Chandrasekhar events), has a median redshift 0.0192. The in our have coverage 16 photometric epochs at cadence 5.4 days, first observed epoch is ~4.6...
The development of ligands and the elucidation their roles in catalytic cycle are key to achieving high efficiency selectivity nondirected transition-metal-catalyzed C–H functionalization. In particular, careful ligand design can enable functionalization previously inaccessible substrate positions, which lead regiodivergent transformations common reactants. this study, a series pyrazolopyridone (PzPyOH) that be easily prepared single step was developed for Pd-catalyzed perdeuteration...
This paper describes an optofluidic droplet interrogation device capable of counting fluorescent drops at a throughput 254,000 per second. To our knowledge, this rate is the highest published thus far. Our consists 16 parallel microfluidic channels bonded directly to filter-coated two-dimensional Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) sensor array. Fluorescence signals emitted from are collected by that forms bottom channel. The proximity facilitates efficient collection fluorescence...
Calcium is the most abundant mineral in human body and essential for formation maintenance of bones teeth as well diverse cellular functions. carbonate (CaCO3) widely used a dietary supplement; however, oral absorption efficiency CaCO3 extremely low, which may be overcome by applying nano-sized materials. In this study, we evaluated efficacy food grade nano comparison with that bulk- or reagent terms cytotoxicity, uptake, intestinal transport, absorption. Cytotoxicity results demonstrated...
Polymer networks are widely used from commodity to biomedical materials. The space-spanning, net-like structure gives polymer their advantageous mechanical and dynamic properties, the most essential factor that governs responses external electrical, thermal, chemical stimuli. Despite ubiquity of applications a century active research on these materials, way chemistry processing interact yield final material properties is not fully understood, which leads number classical challenges in...
The effects of protein surface potential on the self-assembly protein–polymer block copolymers are investigated in globular proteins with controlled shape through two approaches: comparison mCherry-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) bioconjugates structurally homologous enhanced green fluorescent (EGFP)-PNIPAM bioconjugates, and mutants mCherry altered electrostatic patchiness. Despite large changes amino acid sequence, temperature–concentration phase diagrams EGFP-PNIPAM mCherry-PNIPAM...
Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is an allergic condition that characterized by eosinophils infiltrating the esophageal wall. The treatment of disease may require multiple follow up sedated endoscopies and biopsies to confirm elimination eosinophils. These procedures are expensive, time consuming, be difficult for patients tolerate. Here we report on development a confocal microscopy capsule diagnosis monitoring EoE. swallowable implements high-speed fiber-based reflectance technique termed...
Nucleoporin-like polypeptide (NLP) hydrogels are developed by mimicking nucleoporins, proteins that form gel filters regulating transport into the nucleus. Using protein polymers of a minimal consensus repeat, NLPs selectively enhance cargo–carrier complexes similar to natural nuclear pore system. The engineered gels additionally have tunable mechanical and properties can be biosynthesized at high yield, making them promising materials for advanced separation technologies. As service our...
A new class of bidentate ligands was prepared by a modular approach involving Rh-catalyzed C–H annulation reactions. The resulting conformationally constrained enabled the Pd-catalyzed alkenylation at electron-rich and sterically less hindered positions arenes while promoting facile oxidation Pd(0) intermediates oxygen. This newly introduced ligand is complementary to developed for oxidative reactions may find broad application in transition-metal-catalyzed
Although chemical looping technology has enabled energy-efficient H2 production by combining separation and reaction through the lattice oxygen in storage materials (OSMs), metal oxides undergoing successive reduction–oxidation cycles generally suffer from a decline long-term performance. This work investigates an Al-incorporated Ni-ferrite (NiFe2O4) particle to demonstrate detailed deactivation mechanism induced redox stress suggests strategy prolong lifespan of particle. It is revealed...
Abstract Artificially engineered proteins and synthetic polypeptides have attracted widespread interest as building blocks for polymer hydrogels. The biophysical properties of the proteins, such molecular recognition abilities, folded chain structures, sequence‐dependent thermodynamic behavior, enable advances in functional, responsive, tunable gels. This review discusses design hydrogels that incorporate protein domains, highlighting new challenges physics are presented by this emerging...
BACKGROUND:The aims of this study are to investigate the difference between diaphragm thickness at end expiration and total lung capacity (TLC), examine differences in inspiratory muscle function stroke patients healthy individuals. MATERIAL AND METHODS:Forty-five 49 volunteers were included study. Diaphragm was measured TLC by ultrasonography. The maximal pressure (MIP), peak flow (PIF), vital (VC), endurance (IME) assess evaluate function. RESULTS:In patients, significantly thinner on...
Spectrally encoded confocal microscopy (SECM) is a form of reflectance that can achieve high imaging speeds using relatively simple probe optics.Previously, the feasibility conducting large-area SECM esophagus in bench top setups has been demonstrated.Challenges remain, however, translating into clinically-useable device; tissue performance should be improved, and size needs to significantly reduced so it fit luminal organs interest. In this paper, we report development new endoscopic optics...
Radiotracers are widely used to track molecular processes, both in vitro and vivo, with high sensitivity specificity. However, most radionuclide detection methods have spatial resolution inadequate for single-cell analysis. A few existing can extract information from radioactive decays, but the stochastic nature of process precludes high-throughput measurement (and sorting) single cells. In this work, we introduce a new concept translating decays occurring stochastically within radiolabeled...
