We evaluated the impact of patient-prosthesis mismatch (PPM) after mitral valve replacement on clinical outcomes using propensity score models. In all, 760 patients (aged 51 ± 12 years; male:female = 252:508) in whom was performed three types mechanical valves and two bioprosthetic were enrolled. In vivo data effective orifice area drawn from literatures PPM defined as an index 1.2 cm(2)/m(2) or less. The model used ways: inverse probability treatment weighting-adjusted multivariable...

Venovenous (VV) extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a lifesaving technique for patients experiencing respiratory failure. When VV ECMO fails to provide adequate support despite optimal settings, alternative strategies may be employed. One option add another venous cannula increase drainage, while insert an additional arterial return assist cardiac function.Alternatively, separate circuit can implemented function in parallel with the existing circuit. We present case which method was...

The optimal timing for surgery in infective endocarditis (IE) with hemorrhagic stroke and neurologic deficits is difficult to decide because of the risk exacerbating provoking intracranial conversion after using cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). This retrospective study aimed investigate impact presence or absence preoperative hemorrhage (ICH) on surgical outcomes IE recent stroke. The medical records all patients who underwent open heart active from February 2009 December 2020 were...

Atrial septal defect (ASD) is second common congenital heart disease that often leads to adult period. Intracardiac or transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) essential for percutaneous closure of ASD using Amplatzer occluder. Dexmedetomidine (DEX), which a highly selective α2-agonist, has sedative and analgesic properties without respiratory depression in the clinical dose range. We report with TEE under DEX sedation.

Abstract Atrial-esophageal fistula is an extremely rare disease and a life-threatening complication after catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation. There no consensus on the management or repair atrial-esophageal which has high mortality rate. Here, we describe lateral thoracotomy approach focused simplifying procedure in two patients.

: Hemolytic anemia after thoracic aortic surgery is rare. A 69-year-old female patient, who underwent ascending aorta replacement for acute type dissection 7 years ago, was transferred from another hospital due to hemolytic necessitating regular blood transfusions. After engaging in interdisciplinary discussions, we ruled out alternative medical diagnoses and treatments, ultimately identifying the kinked graft as primary cause of hemolysis. Due patient's comorbidity, it deemed high-risk...

Although unique aortic pathology related to bicuspid valve (BAV) has been previously reported, clinical implications of BAV aortopathy risk have yet be investigated. We looked for potential differences in matrix protein expressions the wall patients.Aorta specimens were obtained from 31 patients: group (n=27), tricuspid (TAV) (n=4). The was categorized into three subgroups: left coronary sinus-right sinus (R+L group; n=13, 42%), right sinus-non-coronary (R+N n=8, 26%), and anteroposterior...

Surgical management of interrupted aortic arch (IAA) with systemic outflow tract obstruction is clearly a challenge. If both ventricles are adequate, the Yasui operation useful option. Otherwise, staged approach through initial hybrid palliation and delayed biventricular repair, tailored to degree obstructed outflow, serves avoid high-risk neonatal procedure. Herein, we present patient IAA severe whose treatment involved palliation, followed by operation.

As a key strategy for achieving circular economy, remanufacturing involves bringing end-of-use (EoU) products or cores back to ‘like new’ condition, providing more affordable and sustainable alternatives new products. Despite the potential substantial resources energy savings, industry faces operational challenges. These challenges arise from uncertainties surrounding core quality functionality, return times, process variation required meet product specifications, values, as well their life...

Biological valve prostheses in rapid-deployment aortic replacement (RD AVR) procedures have demonstrated excellent outcomes. However, previous studies indicate a lack of specific surgical outcomes for the bicuspid (BAV) or recommend RD AVR implementation.
