This study is based on in situ measurements of the soil and vadose zone (<60 m) a Mediterranean karst experimental site near Nerja Cave (a show cave dolomite marbles southern Spain). Air temperature, relative humidity, CO2 concentrations are main variables measured, especially their variations with depth number boreholes. The content generally increases depth. Our indicate average air nearly 40,000 μL L−1, maximum 60,000 L−1 In this context, itself appears to be subsystem above groundwater...

This study investigates the occurrence and distribution of 185 organic contaminants (regulated pollutants emerging concern; CECs) in surface groundwater Guadalhorce River basin (southern Spain) providing most detailed dataset regarding pollution presented so far this area. Up to 63 were detected a monitoring campaign conducted March 2016. Most more frequently water where they generally present higher concentrations suggesting prevalence wastewater discharges into streams as main pollutant...

From 2001 to 2005 the CO2 concentration of air in interior and exterior Nerja Cave was studied its relation with temperature visitor number. The average annual outside cave is 320 ppmv, whilst inside, mean increases 525 ppmv during autumn winter, order 750 spring summer. temporal variation content strongly influenced by degree natural ventilation which is, turn, determined difference between external internal temperatures. During autumn, winter spring, a positive correlation inside observed,...

We present a detailed study of the water geochemistry, mineralogy and textures in serpentinization-related hyperalkaline springs Ronda peridotites. waters can be classified into fluids river that are broadly similar to Ca2+–OH- Mg2+–HCO3- types described serpentinite-hosted alkaline elsewhere. At discharge sites (fractures or human made outlets) ponds along fluid flow paths, (10.9 < pH 12) characterized by low Mg high Na, K, Ca, Cl- concentrations. River waters, occurring near spring sites,...

The study presented here is a first qualitative assessment of the occurrence organic contaminants contemplated and not yet in European Union environmental legislation water resources little anthropized Guadiaro River basin (70% its area covered by natural vegetation), southern Spain. Water samples were collected from four carbonate aquifers, two detrital aquifers surface courses analyzed for (i) 171 contaminants, (ii) major ions (iii) stable isotopes (δ18OH2O, δ2HH2O, δ13CDIC). Glavne...

The spatial distribution of paleoclimatic proxies in stalagmite slabs using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) has been performed this study. Stalagmites from different locations the north Spain were cut and analyzed along main growth axis by LIBS. For comparative purposes, powders drilled also inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission (ICP-AES). Advantages LIBS include fast analysis long sections at atmospheric pressure, lateral resolution μm range no sample preparation beyond...

Abstract Condensation water is a major factor in the conservation of heritage caves. It can cause dissolution rock substrate (and pigments art drawn on it) or covering thereof with mineral components, depending chemical saturation degree condensation water. In show caves, visitors act as source CO 2 and thus modify microclimate, favouring negative processes that affect spite their interest, studies composition this type are scarce not very detailed. work we present research Nerja Cave, one...

Nitrate pollution threatens the Barva and Colima multi-aquifer system, primary drinking water source in Greater Metropolitan Area of Costa Rica. In addressing nitrate contamination dynamics, this study proposes an integrated approach by combining multivariate statistical analyses, hydrochemical parameters, sewage discharge, regional land-use land-cover patterns to assess extent degree contamination, dominant biogeochemical processes, refine interpretation sources previously derived solely from δ
