In 2013, monitoring campaign was carried out on thirteen Pacific coast, and five Caribbean coast. The country divided into four zones North (PN), Central (PC), South (PS) Southern (CS). Eight (Mn, Cd, Co, Fe, Cr, Ni, Cu, Pb) were analyzed samples by absorption spectrometry, physicochemical...

In mediterranean-type climate conditions, fog contributes significantly to the water balance of ecosystem, since precipitation rates are lower than evapotranspiration rates. However, it remains unclear whether contribution is a direct input system through canopy dripping or if limits by limiting radiation and vapor pressure deficit. Focusing on former, in this study we aim understand as mediterranean coastal forests. Using principle (ΔS = ET - (P + F)), characterize key elements...

PM2.5 and PM10 samples were collected at 4 14 sampling sites, respectively, located in the Metropolitan area of Costa Rica (MACR), during 2010–2011. These sites representative commercial, industrial residential zones this region. Concentrations elemental carbon (EC) organic (OC) analyzed using IMPROVE thermal-optical reflectance (TOR) method. OC EC concentrations higher commercial showed clear seasonal variations with observed rainy season (May–November) than dry (December–April), due to...

Nitrate pollution threatens the Barva and Colima multi-aquifer system, primary drinking water source in Greater Metropolitan Area of Costa Rica. In addressing nitrate contamination dynamics, this study proposes an integrated approach by combining multivariate statistical analyses, hydrochemical parameters, sewage discharge, regional land-use land-cover patterns to assess extent degree contamination, dominant biogeochemical processes, refine interpretation sources previously derived solely from δ

Nature-based solutions (NbSs) have long recognized the value of coastal and marine ecosystem management associated services as useful tools for climate change mitigation (e.g., blue carbon) adaptation protection against flooding storm surges). However, NbSs remain poorly acknowledged mostly absent from planning disaster risk reduction policies in Caribbean, well ex-post reconstruction funds. With increasing frequency intensity hurricanes region, are now more needed than ever. Taking Mexico a...
