Musculoskeletal symptoms are common among surgical staff and can have long-term implications on health wellbeing. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact anti-fatigue floor mat comfort level teams during head neck surgeries lasting ≥ 3 h. Over 4 months, we prospectively randomized 34 major (≥ h) procedures use or not an mat. Anonymous questionnaires measured levels in different subjects including surgeons, assistant scrub technicians (n = 57). Subjects completed before,...
Abstract Objective To study the impact of a clinical care pathway and computerised order set on short-term post-operative outcomes for patients undergoing head neck free tissue transfer. Methods In this retrospective cohort study, who underwent transfer by single reconstructive surgeon between January 2007 July 2009 were assigned to one two cohorts based timing their surgery: pre- or post-clinical implementation. Measured included peri-operative complications mortality, length hospital stay...
Abstract Objective To determine the effect of tobacco cessation following laryngeal cancer diagnosis on response to first‐line therapy, laryngectomy‐free survival, and overall survival in patients who were current smokers at time diagnosis. Study Design Retrospective, case‐control study. Setting OU Stephenson Cancer Center, National Institute‐Designated Center. Methods We included 140 diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma, diagnosis, treated definitive radiation or chemo/radiation intent...
Abstract Objectives To evaluate for the first time prevalence of human papillomavirus in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma a Middle-Eastern population, and to determine associations between profiles clinicopathological characteristics. Methods A retrospective chart review was conducted all patients treated at Hotel Dieu de France University Hospital (Beirut, Lebanon) January 2010 2016. Existing formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tumour samples were analysed. Human DNA viral load p16...
Benign lymphoepithelial cysts (LECs) are rare lesions that can be found in the lateral neck or parotid glands. A 52-year-old woman presented to our clinic with a slowly growing mass of left malar region. MRI was obtained showing cystic lesion lying between mandibular ramus medially, masseter muscle laterally and gland posteriorly. The surgically removed. Complete resection done preservation facial nerve. Histopathology study confirmed diagnosis cyst. No recurrence at 6 months follow up. To...
Abstract Objective This study aimed to solve the debate over role and extent of neck dissection treat any occult nodal metastasis in patients undergoing salvage laryngectomy for recurrent and/or residual squamous cell carcinoma larynx. Methods was a retrospective time frame 6 years (2016–2022) 74 who underwent bilateral or persistent disease with N0 neck. We calculated incidence ipsilateral contralateral Results Incidence as 8.11 per cent it 0 Regarding level distribution, II highest at 6.76...
Giant cell granulomas (GCG) are rare tumors affecting the head and neck region other sites of body. Their occurrence in hard palate is highly uncommon. We present case a 15-year-old female patient who presented with mass that was confirmed to be GCG following surgical excision. A review all cases reported literature till date an update on differential diagnosis treatment modalities.
Objective: Standard techniques for primary dural repair following lateral skull base surgery are both technically challenging and time consuming. However, inadequate closure may result in postoperative CSF leak local infection. Numerous methods have been described to address this issue. Here we report a novel technique using nonpenetrating titanium microclips. A case example is provided.
Objective Standard techniques for primary dural repair following lateral skull base surgery are both technically challenging and time consuming without the potential repair. Inadequate closure may result in postoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak infectious sequalae. Traditional methods of rely on secondary obliteration CSF fistula. We hypothesized that use nonpenetrating titanium microclips serve as a useful adjunct or establishment an immobile layer surgery. Methods Here, we report...
