Importance
Little is known about the distribution of life-saving trauma resources by racial/ethnic composition in US cities, and if minority populations disproportionately live urban deserts.
Objective
To examine differences geographic access to care 3 largest considering role residential segregation neighborhood poverty.
Design, Setting, Participants
A cross-sectional, multiple-methods study evaluated census tract data from 2015 American Community Survey Chicago,...

Study Design Calf and human cadaveric spines were used to determine motion segment stiffness laxity after implantation of threaded inserts (the Ray Threaded Fusion Cage, Surgical Dynamics, Inc, Concord, CA), comparing direction placement, number implants, shape the device, integrity anterior spine structures. Stiffness with compared those bone grafts, without posterior fixation plates. Objectives To mechanical stabilizing properties a insert for lumbar lumbosacral fusion factors affecting...

BACKGROUND Delivery of intravenous crystalloid fluids (IVF) remains a tradition-based priority during prehospital resuscitation trauma patients. Hypotensive and targeted algorithms have been shown to improve patient outcomes. We hypothesized that receiving any IVF is associated with increased survival in patients compared no IVF. METHODS Prospective data from 10 Level 1 centers were collected. Patient demographics, volume, emergency department vital signs, lifesaving interventions,...

The purpose of this study was to investigate the healing surgically created defects in anulus fibrosus an effort determine potential structure. Four identical lesions were made ten dogs at levels L2-L5. Two killed 3, 6, and 9 weeks. 12 spines harvested during a 3- 12-week period evaluated grossly microscopically. Our demonstrated that stab wound has limited persisting defect could provide pathway for irritating nuclear fluid escape onto perineural tissue, possibly resulting persistent low-back pain.

BACKGROUND Coagulopathy following trauma is associated with poor outcomes. Traumatic brain injury has been coagulopathy out of proportion to other body regions. We hypothesized that severity and shock determine independent region injured. METHODS performed a prospective, multicenter observational study at three Level 1 centers. Conventional coagulation tests (CCTs) rapid thrombelastography (r-TEG) were used. Admission vital signs, base deficit (BD), CCTs, r-TEG data collected. The...

Liquid preserved packed red blood cell (LPRBC) transfusions are used to treat anemia and increase end-organ perfusion. Throughout their storage duration, LPRBCs undergo biochemical structural changes collectively known as the lesion. These adversely affect perfusion oxygen off-loading. Cryopreserved RBCs (CPRBC) can be stored for up 10 years potentially minimize associated We hypothesized that CPRBCs maintain a superior profile compared with LPRBCs.This was prospective, randomized,...

Shock index, pediatric age adjusted (SIPA), has been widely applied in trauma but limited precision because of the reference ranges used its derivation. We hypothesized that a shock index (PSI) equation based on age-based vital signs would outperform SIPA.A retrospective cohort patients aged 1 to 18 years from Trauma Quality Programs - Participant Use File 2010 2018 was performed. Abstract Background One of the most consistent research findings related to race and mental health diseases is disproportionately high rate psychotic disorder diagnoses among people color, specifically African descent. It important examine if a similar pattern exists specific disorders. We aimed racial/ethnic differences in ambulatory care visits diagnosed with schizophrenia-spectrum disorders (SSDs). Methods analyzed data from National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS) 2010–2015. The...

Background: Acupuncture-related pneumothorax (PTX) is a poorly reported complication of thoracic needling. Recent Chinese literature reviews cited PTXs as the most common adverse outcome. Because delayed presentation, this thought to be underrecognized by acupuncturists and largely addressed hospital emergency room personnel. Gun violence is an epidemic that affects hundreds of thousands Americans each year. Despite gun being disproportionately more lethal than other leading causes trauma, there a dearth research carried out on its root and prevention strategies. For the past 20 years, lobbying politics have interfered with forward progress research.
