Abstract We surveyed the treatment of taxonomic information in 567 papers published nine entomological journals 2016. The proportion that provide data sufficient detail to permit precise validation identifications is vanishingly small: most did not cite identification methods, state whether identified material had been vouchered, and taxon concepts were almost universally absent non‐taxonomic papers. Overall, combination all three factors was provided less than 2% time two‐thirds none three....

Excluding 102 species of the previously revised West Palaearctic groups Euura Newman, 1837 (gall-making groups, 84 species; amentorum group, 8 bergmanni and oligospila 2 species), we treat here remaining 164 genus. 145 new synonymies are proposed (one in Platycampus, one Nematus, two Pristiphora, rest Euura: see Table 4 for details). 153 lectotypes designated (see 4). Four nominal reinstated (valid name square brackets): Pteronidea fuscarima Benson, 1933 [E. (Benson, 1933) comb. nov.], P....

Abstract Climatic impacts are especially pronounced in the Arctic, which as a region is warming twice fast rest of globe. Here, we investigate how mean climatic conditions and rates change impact parasitoid insect communities 16 localities across Arctic. We focus on parasitoids widespread habitat, Dryas heathlands, describe community composition terms larval host use (i.e., herbivorous Lepidoptera vs. pollinating Diptera) functional groups differing their closeness associations (koinobionts...

We evaluated the quality of information about taxonomic identifications in 710 papers published seven zoological journals 2017. found that only 10.7% cited identification methods, 29.2% made available specimen-level material for later verification, and 6.9% indicated taxon concepts applied to studied animals. Only 4.0% provided details all three practices, while almost two-thirds none. Invertebrate were more likely than vertebrate provide methods deposit vouchers, but rarely provided, none...

The bee subgenus Chilicola (Heteroediscelis) Toro & Moldenke, 1979 (Hymenoptera, Colletidae, Xeromelissinae) is revised. considered endemic to Chile and occurs across a broad range of habitats. Eight new species are described: charizard Monckton, sp. n., curvapeligrosa guanicoe katherinae lickana mayu packeri randolphi n. One the existing species, valparaiso 1979, syn. treated as junior synonym mantagua nine remaining valid redescribed. Thoroughly illustrated keys for males females...

Understanding the signals used by plants to attract seed disperses is a pervasive quest in evolutionary and sensory biology. Fruit size, colour, odour variation have long been discussed controversial context of dispersal syndromes targeting olfactory-oriented versus visually-oriented foragers. Trade-offs signal investment could impose important physiological constraints on plants, yet largely ignored. Here, we measure reflectance volatile organic compounds community Malagasy our results...

Colletes Latreille (Hymenoptera: Colletidae) is a diverse genus with 518 valid species distributed in all biogeographic realms, except Australasia and Antarctica. Here we provide comprehensive dated phylogeny for based on Bayesian maximum likelihood-based analyses of DNA sequence data six loci: 28S rDNA, cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1, elongation factor-1α copy F2, long-wavelength rhodopsin, RNA polymerase II wingless. In total, our multilocus matrix consists 4824 aligned base pairs 143...

Introduction: Chacón-Monge et al. (2024) sought to test the accuracy of DNA barcoding for species identification in Pacific Central American shallow water echinoderms. They used cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) sequences derived from new material collected as part BioMar-ACG project Costa Rica. Using their set 348 echinoderm sequences, they compared results two online platforms: National Center Biotechnology Information (NCBI) GenBank using nucleotide Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLASTn),...

The purpose of this application, under Article 75.5 the Code, is to replace damaged holotype Chilicola vicugna Toro & Moldenke, 1979, which missing its head, with a neotype. small, solitary, stem-nesting bee occurring in north-central Chile. Species identifications subgenus (Heteroediscelis) rely large extent upon diagnostic characters found on and thus it essential that an intact name-bearing type be made available for future study.
