Abstract ‘Rauisuchia’ comprises Triassic pseudosuchians that ranged greatly in body size, locomotor styles and feeding ecologies. Our concept of what constitutes a rauisuchian is changing as result discoveries over the last 15 years. New evidence has shown rauisuchians are probably not natural (monophyletic) group, but instead number smaller clades (e.g. Rauisuchidae, Ctenosauriscidae, Shuvosauridae) may be each other's closest relatives within Pseudosuchia. Here, we acknowledge there still...

Abstract The early evolution of lepidosaurs is marked by an extremely scarce fossil record during the Triassic. Importantly, most Triassic lepidosaur specimens are represented disarticulated individuals from high energy accretion deposits in Laurasia, thus greatly hampering our understanding initial stages evolution. Here, we describe fragmentary remains associated skull and mandible Clevosaurus hadroprodon sp. nov., a new taxon sphenodontian Late (Carnian; 237–228 Mya) Brazil. Referral to...

ABSTRACT Here we estimate the body mass of 10 iconic species extinct xenarthrans (cingulates and sloths) from Quaternary Brazil using two sets predictive equations based on postcranial variables. Our results revealed that one these methods is more reliable in estimating evaluated taxa, even though both provide accurate results. The estimates for cingulates indicate they would have been heavier than previously proposed. Among sloths, appear to be within range previous estimates. Compared...

Exaeretodon riograndensis Abdala, Barberena, & Dornelles, 2002 F., M.C. and J.E.F. 2002. A new species of the traversodontid cynodont from Santa Maria Formation (Middle/Late Triassic) Southern Brazil. Journal Vertebrate Paleontology, 22: 313–325. [Taylor Francis Online], [Web Science ®] , [Google Scholar] is most abundant preserved in basal 2 Sequence (Hyperodapedon Assemblage Zone), southern Brazil closely related to argentinus Cabrera, 1943 A. 1943. Abstract Prestosuchus chiniquensis is an extinct species of terrestrial archosaur from the Middle Triassic Epoch restricted to southern Brazil. In this paper thigh musculature P . reconstructed based on a well-preserved specimen and myological descriptions extant birds crocodylians. Among 16 analysed muscular groups, 13 were recognized as present homologous both groups archosaurs, two only crocodylian line so that 15 in fossil specimen. We report the first occurrence in South America of spinosaurid specimens belonging to clade Baryonychinae. The material comprises three tooth crowns recovered from Lower Cretaceous (Berriasian-Valanginian) Feliz Deserto Formation, State Sergipe, northeast Brazil. have typical conidont condition, displaying a fluted morphology, veined enamel texture and carinae extending cervix region, conditions similar those shared among theropods. Furthermore, notable feature is presence serrated composed...

Historically, studies aimed at prospecting and analyzing paleontological neontological data to investigate species distribution have developed separately. Research the interface between paleontology biogeography has shown a unidirectional bias, mostly focusing on how information can aid understand through time. However, modern suit of techniques ecological biogeography, particularly models (SDM), be instrumental for paleontologists as well, improving biogeography-paleontology interchange. In...

Great environmental changes may affect the survival capability of a variety organisms. Testudinidae is most diverse family terrestrial chelonians within whole order (Testudines). Interestingly, however, number extinct species overcome extant ones. In to understand better how diversification process this occurred, work used PyRate software, which estimates both preservation and processes in continuous time interval. For such, software list fossil occurrences obtained from Paleobiology...
