A preliminary feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the nutritive value of adult variegated grasshopper (Zonocerus variegatus) meal (VGM) as a replacement for fish in diets Clarias gariepinus fingerlings. Proximate analysis result showed that VGM had 61.50% crude protein, 6.87% lipid, 27.33 NFE and 9.35% chitin. Five isonitrogenous (30%) isoenergetic (18.42 MJ kg−1) were formulated which progressively replaced fishmeal at five inclusion levels (0%, 25%, 50%, 75% 100%). The best performance...
Effect of storage time on the quality smoked Oreochromis nilotius was studied. One hundred fish samples O. niloticus (average weight 210 ± 15g) used. Analysis carried out include: proximate, mineral composition (Ca, Na, Fe and Mg), biochemical, amino acid sensory evaluation. Data obtained subjected to Variance (ANOVA) while data nonparametric test (Kruskal Wallis test). Proximate quality, mineral, acid, biochemical frozen content reduced with increase in period. Na Mg were most abundant...
The microbial load on smoked fish sold in Ibadan, Oyo State was studied. 64 of 4 different species (Mackerel (Scomber scombrus), Sardine (Sardinela eba), Panla (Gadus morhua) and Cat (Clarias gariepinus)) were sourced from five market locations. microbiological analysis done using standard procedures. bacterial count sampled Ojo the highest (0.35±0.11 x 103 CFU/g) while bacteria sample Bodija lowest (0.07±0.04 CFU/g). There no significant difference (p>0.05) various within Ibadan...

A 70 day feeding trial was conducted to assess the potential nutritive value of raw sunflower and sesame seed meal as dietary replacement soybean in practical diets of Clarias gariepinus. All were prepared be isonitrogenous, (40% c.p). Raw used replace at a rate 15, 30 45% respectively. The performance fish compared fed based control containing 40% crude protein. Each treatment had three replicates using 15 catfish fingerling per tank with mean initial body weight 3.28 ± 0.15 g. There no...
The haematological and biochemical profile of blood Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fed on diets containing watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) seedmeal were evaluated using packed cell volume (PCV); haemoglobin content (Hb), white count (WBC), red (RBC), mean corpuscular (MCH), (MCV), concentration (MCHC), glucose, cholesterol, total protein, albumin globulin as indices. 150 fingerlings average weight 6.12±0.05g acclimatized for a week, weighed allotted into five dietary treatments; DT1,...
The impact of dietary fenugreek (FN) supplementation on growth performance, physio‐metabolic enzyme response, and antioxidant activities in hybrid African catfish ( Clarias gariepinus ♀ × Heterobranchus bidorsalis ♂) was investigated this study. Five isonitrogenous diets (38% crude protein) were developed fed to the fish for 60 days. FN incorporated into at 0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2%. Two hundred twenty‐five fingerlings (average weight 4.01 g ± 0.02) used study randomly distributed five groups...
This paper presents a case study of Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria, whose traditional ethnoveterinary practices risk being lost as the country transitions to more intensive and enclosed livestock practices. We use planetary health framing make visible value indigenous that are less damaging environment, animal welfare, human health. Through ethnographic observation, focus group discussions (FGDs), key stakeholder interviews, we show complex system herbal medicines herding maintain herd health,...
Botanical larvicides have featured prominently as alternative to synthetic chemical insecticides which are less degradable and toxic non-target organisms. The larvicidal potentials of the seed oils Pterocarpus santalinoides Tropical Manihot species (TMS 30572) were investigated in laboratory against larvae Aedes aegypti. oil each plant was extracted using nhexane graded into different concentrations; 30, 60, 90, 120 150ppm. toxicity concentrations evaluated 3rd instar A. aegypti tadpoles...
A study was conducted to determine in-vivo apparent digestibility coefficient of nutrients in processed jackbean meal. Acid Insoluble Ash (AIA) used as an indicator. The test diets consist the seed meal replacing soybean at 10, 20, 30 and 40% serve D10, D20, D30, D40 respectively. diet called CTR, without served control.
