Neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) is a leading cause of blindness. The first-line therapy anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents delivered by intravitreal injection. Ionising radiation mitigates key pathogenic processes underlying nAMD, and therefore has therapeutic potential. STAR aimed to assess whether stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) reduces the number anti-VEGF injections required, without sacrificing visual acuity.

Cerebral blood flow was measured both under conditions of normocapnia and hypercapnia in 22 diabetic patients 20 normal control subjects, using either the intravenous 133 Xe method or closely comparable inhalation method. While 19 out subjects responded appropriately to with an increase flow, eight failed respond normally, this difference being significant ( p = 0.03). Those manifesting abnormal response included young, insulin‐dependent a short duration diabetes no clinical evidence complications.

In the UK, as elsewhere, there is potential to improve how radiological challenges are addressed through improvement in, or development of, a strong radiation protection (RP) safety culture. preliminary work in two areas have been identified having influence on UK society: healthcare and nuclear industry sectors. Each has specific challenges, but with many overlapping common factors. Other sectors will benefit from further consideration. In order make meaningful comparisons between these...

A clinical diagnosis of bile acid malabsorption (BAM) can be confirmed using SeHCAT (tauroselcholic ((75)selenium) acid), a radiolabelled synthetic acid. However, while BAM the cause chronic diarrhoea, it is often overlooked as potential diagnosis. Therefore, we investigated use for in UK hospitals.A multicentre survey was conducted capturing centre and patient-level information detailing patient care-pathways, history, results, treatment with sequestrants (BAS), follow-up clinics. The standard of care for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) involves ongoing intravitreal injections anti-angiogenic drugs targeting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). most commonly used anti-VEGF are ranibizumab, bevacizumab and aflibercept. main objective the STAR trial is to determine if stereotactic radiotherapy can reduce number that patients with nAMD require.STAR a multicentre, double-masked, randomised, sham-controlled clinical trial. Bile acid malabsorption (BAM) is one possible explanation for chronic diarrhea. BAM may be idiopathic, or result from ileal resection inflammation including Crohn's disease, secondary to other conditions, cholecystectomy, peptic ulcer surgery, and pancreatitis. No "gold standard" exists clinical diagnosis of BAM, but response treatment with a bile sequestrant (BAS) often accepted as confirmation. The SeHCAT (tauroselcholic [selenium-75] acid) test uses radiolabeled synthetic provides...

Summary— Dynamic renal scintigraphy is a successful and minimally invasive technique for evaluating function. An extension to the basic involving fast‐frame acquisition modified analysis described which enables ureteric function be examined. Ureteric peristalsis was assessed in 32 patients using this technique. The results from 5 representative studies are detail. Normally functioning ureters exhibit peristaltic contractions at frequency of up 3/min. Hyperperistalsis that exceeds 4...

The management often presents formidable problem to urologists, physicians general practitioners. An earlier study noted hold-up urine in the pelvis implicated this pathogenesis pain. In we have failed demonstrate an excess incidence disordered urinary peristalsis syndrome.
