Neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) is a leading cause of blindness. The first-line therapy anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents delivered by intravitreal injection. Ionising radiation mitigates key pathogenic processes underlying nAMD, and therefore has therapeutic potential. STAR aimed to assess whether stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) reduces the number anti-VEGF injections required, without sacrificing visual acuity.

In the UK, macular laser is treatment of choice for people with diabetic oedema central retinal subfield thickness (CST) < 400 μm, as per National Institute Health and Care Excellence guidelines. It remains unclear whether subthreshold micropulse superior should replace standard threshold eligible patients. DIAMONDS a pragmatic, multicentre, allocation-concealed, randomised, equivalence, double-masked clinical trial that aims to determine effectiveness cost-effectiveness compared laser, CST...

Background The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence recommends macular laser to treat diabetic oedema with a central retinal subfield thickness of < 400 µm on optical coherence tomography. DIAMONDS (DIAbetic Macular Oedema aNd Diode Subthreshold micropulse laser) trial compared standard threshold subthreshold suitable laser. Objectives Determining the clinical effectiveness, safety cost-effectiveness µm. Design A pragmatic, multicentre, allocation-concealed, double-masked,...

The United Kingdom's dead citizens charter was established last year to improve end of life experiences and promote better funeral practices. It identifies 30 areas that need an overhaul, including the availability information for relatives organising a funeral. Institutions such as hospitals, hospices, nursing homes advisers, say National Funerals College, guide rationally through choice directors disposal options. A pilot study is planned. Many general practitioners dream paperless...
