A surfactant-assisted nonaqueous strategy, relying on high-temperature aminolysis of titanium carboxylate complexes, has been developed to access anisotropically shaped TiO2 nanocrystals selectively trapped in the metastable brookite phase. Judicious temporal manipulation precursor supply reaction mixture enables systematic tuning nanostructure geometric features over an exceptionally wide dimensional range (30−200 nm). Such degree control is rationalized within frame a self-regulated...
We report a general synthetic approach to tetrapod-shaped colloidal nanocrystals made of various combinations II-VI semiconductors. Uniform tetrapods were prepared using preformed seeds in the sphalerite structure, onto which arms grown by coinjection and chemical precursors into hot mixture surfactants. By this approach, wide variety core materials could be chosen (in practice, most semiconductors that phase, namely, CdSe, ZnTe, CdTe); contrast, best for arm growth CdS CdTe. The samples...
We describe an approach to synthesize colloidal nanocrystal heterodimers composed of CoPt3 and Au. The growth is based on the nucleation gold domains preformed nanocrystals. It a highly versatile methodology which allows us tune independently size two in each dimer by varying several reaction parameters. statistical analysis distribution domain sizes dimers compositional mapping achieved dark field imaging energy dispersive spectroscopy confirm that are indeed made Au, respectively....
Asymmetric binary nanocrystals (BNCs), comprising one c-axis elongated anatase TiO2 section and γ-Fe2O3 spherical domain attached together, are synthesized by heterogeneous nucleation of iron oxide onto the longitudinal facets nanorods in a ternary surfactant mixture. The topologically controlled composition BNCs is ascertained combination powder X-ray diffraction, Raman Mössbauer spectroscopy, high-angle annular dark-field imaging, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy lattice...
Colloidal semiconductor-magnetic hybrid nanocrystals with topologically controlled composition are fabricated by heterogeneous nucleation of spherical epsilon-Co domains onto anatase TiO2 nanorods. The latter can be selectively decorated at either their tips or multiple locations along longitudinal sidewalls, forming lattice-matched heterointerfaces regardless the metal deposition sites. possibility switching between heterostructure growth modes arises from facet-dependent chemical...
A colloidal nonaqueous approach to semiconductor-magnetic hybrid nanocrystals (HNCs) with selectable heterodimer topologies and tunable geometric parameters is demonstrated. Brookite TiO(2) nanorods, distinguished by a curved shape-tapered profile richly faceted terminations, are exploited as substrate seeds onto which single spherical domain of inverse spinel iron oxide can be epitaxially grown at either one apex or any location along their longitudinal sidewalls in hot surfactant...
A colloidal crystal-splitting growth regime has been accessed, in which TiO(2) nanocrystals, selectively trapped the metastable anatase phase, can evolve to anisotropic shapes with tunable hyperbranched topologies over a broad size interval. The synthetic strategy relies on nonaqueous sol-gel route involving programmed activation of aminolysis and pyrolysis titanium carboxylate complexes hot surfactant media via simple multi-injection reactant delivery technique. Detailed investigations...
Despite the great interest that cocrystals are currently gaining for their application to design of new supramolecular structures with desired functional properties, studies concerning experimental strategies capable controlling polymorphism phenomena a given system scarcely reported. We propose herein use polymer-assisted grinding (POLAG) as method selective control product polymorphic form in mechanochemical cocrystallization reaction. Specifically, model selected this study formed by...
Branching in semiconductor nanocrystals, which leads to tetrapods and more complex architectures, is the subject of intensive investigation. Here we support model according branching CdTe nanocrystals driven by formation multiple wurtzite twins. This contrast previous models for this material. We found that twinning, as well anisotropic growth, can be triggered presence suitable molecules, such instance methylphosphonic acid. In case designed a robust growth scheme variation single parameter...
The influence of static atomic displacements, due to size effects in alloys with atoms having different covalent or ionic radii, on high angle annular dark field image contrast is studied quantitatively by simulations and experiments. We show that the displacements can have a large Z contrast, depending alloy composition scanning transmission electron microscopy specimen thickness. This has be taken into account for quantitative chemistry measurement based Z-contrast imaging.
We demonstrate the light-induced, reversible wettability of homogeneous nanocrystal-based, thin-film coatings composed closely packed arrays surfactant-capped anatase TiO2 nanorods laterally oriented on various substrates. Under selective pulsed UV laser excitation, oxide films exhibit a surface transition from highly hydrophobic and superoleophilic state (water oil contact angles ∼110° less than ∼8°, respectively) to amphiphilic condition ∼20° ∼3°, respectively). A mechanism is identified...
The interaction of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) with cysteine and its derivatives is the basis a number bionanotechnologies, for these, most important process aggregation (or antiaggregation), which enables an array colorimetric detection methods. When AuNPs were functionalized cysteine, dimer cystine, or cysteine-derived tripeptide, glutathione, three different mechanisms observed. Both glutathione induced without further pH modification: first by interparticle zwitterionic second hydrogen...
The aims of our experiment were to evaluate the uptake and translocation cerium titanium oxide nanoparticles verify their effects on growth cycle barley (Hordeum vulgare L.). Barley plants grown physiological maturity in soil enriched with either 0, 500 or 1000 mg·kg−1 (nCeO2) (nTiO2) combination. nCeO2 nTiO2 treated was about 10 days longer than controls. In number tillers, leaf area spikes per plant reduced respectively by 35.5%, 28.3% 30% (p ≤ 0.05). stimulated compensated for adverse...
We report on the unprecedented direct observation of spin-polarization transfer across colloidal magneto-plasmonic Au@Fe-oxide core@shell nanocrystal heterostructures. A magnetic moment is induced into Au domain when shell contains a reduced Fe-oxide phase in contact with noble metal. An increased hole density states suggested occurrence charge-transfer process concomitant to magnetization transfer. The angular spin ratio, morb/mspin, for 5d states, which was found be equal 0.38, appeared...
