Interferon-gamma release assays (IGRAs) have been recently developed for the diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) infection. The aim present study was to evaluate performance an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)-based IGRA detecting TB in children.A prospective 336 children at risk infection carried out. All were tested with tuberculin skin test (TST) and a commercial ELISA-based [QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube (Cellestis)].TST positive 58 (17.3%) 60 (17.9%) children. Two (0.6%) results...

Knowing the incidence of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) is essential for planning appropriate vaccination policies. However, IMD may be underestimated because misdiagnosis or insufficiently sensitive laboratory methods. Using a national molecular surveillance register, we assessed number cases misdiagnosed and diagnoses obtained postmortem with real-time PCR (rPCR), compared sensitivity rPCR versus culture-based testing. A total 222 were identified: 11 (42%) 26 fatal had been...

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common disease affecting nearly 20% of the pediatric population in developed countries. The use biologic therapies, such as dupilumab, has considerably changed treatment AD. However, effects drugs on immune system may raise doubts and concerns, particularly special populations, like those with active or latent infections [1]. Here, we present case patient AD who was found to be infected Mycobacterium tuberculosis during dupilumab. Our 12-year-old boy suffered from...

This study is the largest report on Mycobacterium tuberculosis transmission rate (TR) from children with pulmonary to school pupils. Higher TR (around 21.6%) was observed in contacts of smear-positive children. pediatric smear-negative index cases around 0. If our data are confirmed, a case could be screened only by clinical evaluation and tuberculin skin test, avoiding routine use chest radiographs less than 5 years age as well.
