ABSTRACT Tissue and urokinase-type plasminogen activators are serine proteases with highly restricted specificity, their best characterised role being to release the broad specificity protease plasmin from inactive plasminogen. It has frequently been suggested that these, similar proteases, involved in axonal growth tissue remodelling associated neural development. To help define what this might be, we have studied expression of developing rat nervous tissue. Urokinase-type activator mRNA is...

The expression of tissue- and urokinase-type plasminogen activators has been studied in developing cerebellum, hippocampus, cerebral cortex, olfactory bulb mucosa the rat by situ hybridization. All identifiable neurons express urokinase mRNA from an early stage their development, this appears to coincide with onset axogenesis. For cerebellar granule cells, both axonal growth are initiated before they migrate external layer; for majority neocortical neurons, however, processes commenced after...

We have isolated overlapping phage genomic clones covering an area of 26 kilobases that encodes the human alpha 2-plasmin inhibitor. The inhibitor gene contains 10 exons and 9 introns distributed over approximately 16 DNA. To our knowledge, number is highest yet reported for a member serine protease (serpin) superfamily. All are located in 5'-half corresponding mRNA. 5'-untranslated region leader sequence interrupted by 3 totaling equal to 6 kilobases. A "TATA box" 17 nucleotides upstream...

We developed a new porous scaffold made from synthetic polymer, poly(DL-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLG), and evaluated its use in the repair of cartilage. Osteochondral defects on femoral trochlear rabbits were treated by transplantation PLG scaffold, examined histologically compared with an untreated control group. Fibrous tissue was initially organised arcade array poor cellularity at articular surface scaffold. The regenerated to cartilage surface. In subchondral area, bone formed absorbed....
