Diagnosis of intestinal parasites in stool samples is generally still carried out by microscopy; however, this technique known to suffer from a low sensitivity and unable discriminate between certain protozoa. In order overcome these limitations, real-time multiplex PCR was evaluated as an alternative approach for diagnosing Giardia lamblia, Cryptosporidium spp. Entamoeba histolytica samples. Therefore, total 631 faecal were analysed both microscopy well following automated DNA extraction....

Transportation of medical samples between laboratories or hospital sites is typically performed by motorized ground transport. Due to the increased traffic congestions in urban environments, drone transportation has become an attractive alternative for fast shipping samples. In accordance with CLSI guidelines and ISO 15189 standard, impact this type on sample integrity performance laboratory tests must be thoroughly validated.

Summary Introduction CLSI recommends a minimal citrate tube fill volume of 90%. A validation protocol with clinical and analytical components was set up to determine the threshold for international normalized ratio prothrombin time ( PT ‐ INR ), activated partial thromboplastin (a PTT ) fibrinogen. Methods Citrated coagulation samples from 16 healthy donors eight patients receiving vitamin K antagonists VKA were evaluated. Eighty‐nine tubes filled varying volumes >50%. Coagulation tests...

Congenital prekallikrein deficiency is a rare disorder in which there an vitro clotting defect despite absence of bleeding or thrombotic tendency. In this report, 15-year-old boy with unexpected markedly prolonged activated partial thrombin time, normal prothrombin and without personal nor familial history thrombosis presented. Laboratory investigation revealed severe deficiency. This case highlights the importance following diagnostic algorithm to establish correct diagnosis. Moreover, by...

Background. To measure International Normalized Ratio (INR) in hemodialysis patients with tunneled dialysis catheters (TDCs), blood sampling is frequently obtained via the catheter at start of session. INR measurements finger-prick point care testing (POCT) and taken from circuit are evaluated as alternatives. Methods. In 14 TDCs, treated vitamin K antagonists (VKA), POCT were compared plasma samples after 30 60 minutes during 3 nonconsecutive sessions. Results. Blood site contaminated...
