This study investigated how congruence between dyadic partners’ leader and follower prototypes affects leader–member exchange (LMX) quality. Specifically, we examined cooperation as a process variable in the relationship. Participants laboratory setting completed group task followed by context of leader–follower Observed mediated relationship on assessed LMX quality, agreement. As decreased, leaders were less likely to be cooperative an there was greater chance would cooperate but followers defect.
We examined the impact of health care workers' (HCWs) adjustment to COVID-19 pandemic on their work-related attitudes and behaviors.
Although numerous typologies, taxonomies, characteristics, and behaviors of followers have been proposed, there has little systematic work to integrate these efforts. Guided by literature on follower role theory expectations for those in roles, we propose a theoretical descriptive typology characteristics from the perspective how leaders view within their role(s). Specifically, constructed our typological model based three core tenets theory: (1) active versus passive behaviors, (2)...
While the potential value of Virtual World Technologies (VWTs) lies in their promise to facilitate communication through new and novel forms collaboration, there is a lack prior research that examines how VWTs compare other types information technologies (ICT) commonly used support collaborative work. This study investigates effects on group ideation outcomes; specifically, it compares use Second Life chat environment for idea generation tasks. As hypothesized, groups using an task generated...

In this study, we integrate follower categorization theory with affective events (AET) to investigate the extent which within-person patterns of implicit followership theories (IFTs) and work-related affect predict job satisfaction for leaders versus followers. Latent profile analysis (LPA) was used identify describe distinct profiles IFTs For sample 242 leaders, two ( Proactive Alienated) were found. Leaders views followers showed above-average ratings affect, while Alienated lower affect....
Drawing from recognition‐based categorization and self‐fulfilling prophecy theory, the present study investigates antecedents consequences of leaders’ implicit followership theories (LIFTs). Using latent variable modelling, in a sample 230 leader‐follower dyads, we support our hypotheses that follower personality in‐role behaviour influence LIFTs which, turn, affect effort performance. Specifically, found general factor (GFP), including agreeableness, conscientiousness, extroversion,...
The present study sought to examine the role of fulfilled vs. unfulfilled expectations in work-related and non-work domains. Specifically, we examined how congruence incongruence between implicit leadership theories across multiple categories leaders (typical, ideal, effective leaders) characteristics recognized on one’s supervisor affect leader-member exchange (LMX), work-family conflict, subsequent counter-productive work behavior. We tested our hypotheses using polynomial regression...
Purpose The authors examine mutually exclusive sub-groups of congruent expectations for leader and follower roles relate to self-other endorsement, how these patterns predict relationship quality. Design/methodology/approach implicit theories at the dyadic level, using latent class analysis in 193 working-adult dyads. then assessments quality general linear models (GLM). Findings supported 4 classes dyads with specific (or incongruent) ILT's IFT's: Role congruent, exchange committed role...
Purpose The authors integrate social cognitive theory with exchange to examine how subordinates' perceptions of leader-member (LMX) and moral disengagement mediate the relationship between congruence on implicit leadership theories (ILTs) ethical leaders characteristics recognized in one's supervisor (ethical ILT–supervisor alignment) subsequent engagement-related outcomes (engagement attitudes, job satisfaction supervisor-directed deviance). then romance (ROL) as a moderator these...
The present research attempted to associate Leaders’ Implicit Followership Theories (LIFTs) with leaders past observation of followers’ behaviors (active engagement and independent thinking), follower personalities (Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness). There were 230 pairs full-time working supervisors subordinates participating in the survey at two time points, 10 weeks apart. Results from path analyses showed that leaders’ observed follower’ active Time 1 was positively related...
Although motivation is an important component of organizational behavior, work on the underlying motives citizenship behavior (OCB) has produced inconsistent and limited findings concerning interrelatedness OCB motives. The present effort had several objectives. First, we explored driving explained inconsistencies with impression management Second, examined how profiles actual may manifest. Third, tested relationships among emerged OCB. Fourth, assessed motive patterns OCB, counterproductive...
The purpose of the present effort was to explore profiles organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) and motives driving such via a pattern- oriented approach. Additionally, relationships between patterns OCB counterproductive work (CWB) work-family conflict (WFC) were examined in an attempt elucidate further possible “dark side” OCB. Latent profile analyses revealed distinct (i.e., actively disengaged, pragmatic, altruistic, self-serving, pressured) non-citizen, well-rounded, exemplary...
Despite the recognition that a “follower-centric approach” is crucial to leadership process, few studies have focused on how followers see themselves and their roles in process. Building followership role theory research, we examine different follower orientations are associated with development of quality social psychological relationships between leader. In two studies, establish relationship (co-production, passive, anti-authoritarian) closeness leader show indirect effects types...
For decades, followers have been conceptualized singularly as “passive” beings with little focus on the unique beliefs, characteristics, or behaviors of followers. This symposium attempts to demonstrate different typologies and followership in organizations. The papers presented this will offer diverse views followers, how constructs are related leadership organizational outcomes. discuss (1) relationship between schemas followers’ performance, (2) four its differential relationships...
