Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) are widely used at laboratory scale in the treatment of different pollutants, and many references appear literature on this subject. However, there not works devoted to study impact these from an environmental economic point view. For reasons, is focused evaluation, by LCA, two AOPs (photocatalysis pho-Fenton) experimental setups (solarbox CPCs), for metoprolol. LCA has proved be useful compare tested devices. In same way, assessment was made...
The size distribution, band gap energy, and photoluminescence of silicon nanocrystals embedded in SiO2 have been measured by direct independent methods. distribution is coupling high-resolution conventional electron microscopy special imaging conditions. calculated from excitation measurements agrees with theoretical predictions. Their correlation allows us to report the experimental Stokes shift between absorption emission, which 0.26±0.03 eV, average size. This almost exactly twice energy...
The effect of the photo-Fenton process on biodegradability enhancement 100 mg x L(-1) aqueous 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) solution has been investigated. An initial concentration 65 H2O2 and 10 Fe (II) during 35 minutes irradiation time was sufficient for total 2,4-DCP removal. At these working conditions, biodegradability, measured as BODS/COD ratio, increased from 0 original up to 0.15. Biological oxidation pre-treated solutions performed in a sequencing batch reactor (SBR). After 32 days...
Antibiotics are pharmaceutical compounds widely used to treat a broad range of infections. These chemicals appear be recalcitrant when released water systems, and their presence at the effluent wastewater treatment plants surface waters has been documented. Sulfamethoxazole (SMX), sulfonamide commonly urinary infections, is one them. Ozonation was proved suitable method remove SMX antibiotic in water. However, it stated that high ozone dosage would necessary achieve complete mineralization...
Abstract BACKGROUND The persistence of microcontaminants through conventional wastewater treatments is a matter concern and it suggests the implementation advanced treatment steps. Although there evidence that reverse osmosis ( RO ) most efficient for removal these compounds, has drawback producing significant amounts highly polluted brine. In this work, chemical analyses toxicity bioassays were combined to evaluate different pharmaceuticals dioxin‐like compounds from brine oxidative...
In the present work, four oxidation techniques were investigated (O3, O3/UV, H2O2/O3, O3/H2O2/UV) to pre-treat reverse osmosis (RO) concentrate before treatment in a moving-bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) system. Without previous oxidation, MBBR was able remove small fraction of chemical oxygen demand (COD) (5–20%) and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) (2–15%). When previously submitted DOC removal efficiencies increased 40–55%. All tested improved biodegradability. The treated by combined process...
Chlorophenols (CPs) are toxic nonbiodegradable pollutants. In recent decades, several alternative processes for the treatment of these compounds have been investigated. Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) some most promising technologies. Among them, UV-based AOPs [O3+Fe(II)+UV, photo-Fenton, UV+Fe(III), UV+H2O2, photocatalysis and photolysis] previously studied degradation 2,4-dichlorophenol (DCP) in an aqueous solution at laboratory scale. this paper, techniques compared kinetic constants...
A combined strategy of a photo-Fenton pretreatment followed by Sequencing Batch Biofilm Reactor (SBBR) was evaluated for total C and N removal from synthetic wastewater containing 200 mg L−1 the antibiotic Sulfamethoxazole (SMX). Photo-Fenton reaction performed with two different H2O2 concentrations (300 400 L−1) 10 Fe2 + . The pre-treated effluents intermediates as sole carbon source, together nutrients solution, were used feed biological reactor. SBBR operated under aerobic conditions to...
