Sociometrics and a revised Pupil Evaluation Inventory (PEI) were administered to 362 boys in Grades 3-6 define peer-rated narrow-band dimensions of undercontrolled behavior associated with peer rejection. Three resulted from factor analysis: aggression, hyperactivity, inattention-immaturity. All 3 rejection; but only inattention-immaturity was negatively positive socionietric status. Two distinct clusters problems found: hyperactive inattentive-immature group aggressive group. Results...
A network analysis approach to psychopathology regards symptoms as mutually interacting components of a multifaceted system (Borsboom & Cramer, 2013). Although several studies using this have examined comorbidity between disorders cross-sectional samples, direct application the intraindividual dynamic relations in complex, comorbid case has not been reported. The current article describes an (IDNA) understanding individual (over time) lead-lag interrelations symptoms. Multivariate time...
As increasing numbers of patients survive acute leukemia, it has become important to study the long-term psychological and social adjustment who have successfully completed their leukemia treatment. An aspect this inquiry is comparing psychosocial impact two treatments for leukemia: chemotherapy bone marrow transplantation. This examines 70 survivors received either conventional alone (N = 49) or an allogeneic transplantation 21). At time assessment, were average 31 years old, had treatment...
Despite considerable interest and growth in methods to develop or generate cognitive behavioral case formulations (CBCFs), relatively little conceptual empirical work has focused on the validation testing of these formulations. A formulation can be regarded as an idiographic theory person his her life situation. This complex set clinical judgments consists a measurement model including behavior problems distress constructs how they are measured; causal involving variables such thoughts...
Primacy (or anchoring) effects in clinical judgment occur when information presented at an early stage unduly influences a compared to the effect of same later stage. Using recent theoretical models these effects, three debiasing methods were developed and tested for their efficacy. Contrary some failures find anchoring both single-cue sequence manipulations produced medium-size on personality trait ratings generalized predictions behavior. A consider-the-opposite procedure that involved cue...
This article describes a method for the intraindividual clinical validation of cognitive case formulation (CCF) involving hypotheses about patient's idiosyncratic schema (ICS). The two-stage approach begins by testing convergent and discriminant validity hypothesized ICS against individual's daily ratings cognition items using confirmatory dynamic factor analysis. second stage evaluates extent to which scores predict variability in symptoms distress further addresses evaluating content...
Abstract Although clinicians have used cognitive behavioural case formulations (CBCFs) to guide treatment for many years, the validity of formulation (CF) is rarely evaluated. Given central role in planning, particularly complex or comorbid cases, a straightforward method empirically evaluate CBCF could increase effectiveness plan tailored particular client. This article describes step-by-step, person-specific approach evaluating that can be appropriate cases clinical practice especially...
Parental coviewing – the act of being present when a child is watching television can influence child's cognitive processing and emotional reactions. This study investigated role has on which evidenced by phasic psychophysiological orienting response to three types information: plot explicit, educational implicit inference. An experiment was conducted that measured heart rate children (N = 88; mean age 9.12 years) while messages either with or without parent in room. It predicted, found,...
Although a number of manuals describe how to develop cognitive-behavioural case formulation (CBCF) assist the clinician in developing and implementing tailored CB treatment for complex or comorbid cases, methods evaluate test functional hypotheses particular are not widely known used. Thus, formulation-based, treatments such cases likely be guided by formulations uncertain validity. The present article presents guidelines choices available clinical trainee, researcher, practitioner planning...
This study explored the effects of relaxation and imagery procedures on voluntary self-regulation immune responses. Immune studies 19 adults were made before after a 45 minute intervention consisting with aimed at enhancing activity. A self-report measure psychological distress was completed each blood sample. Results indicate that seven measures functioning measured adequate reliability consisted two sets parameters. statistically significant increase in one mitogen marginally count found...
Using a network analysis (NA) approach, the current study examined relations among different facets of Distress Tolerance (DT). The NA approach quantifies and displays variables in visual consisting nodes (symptoms) edges (partial correlations between symptoms). An exploratory evaluated how manifestations DT uniquely systematically relate to one another.Undergraduate students (N = 288) completed 10 commonly used measures including cognitive, behavioral, self-report measures. Results indicated...
We aimed to demonstrate the utility of an item-level network analysis approach suicide risk by testing interpersonal psychological theory (IPTS) among 402 psychiatric inpatients. hypothesized that specific thwarted belongingness (TB) or perceived burdensomeness (PB; Interpersonal Needs Questionnaire items) facets would positively relate passive active ideation and these each other form distinct clusters. also tested TB PB central networks as predictors compared with full subscales....
Abstract Two experiments examined the effects of potentially biasing information on judgments symptom severity pertaining to diagnosis major depressive episode (MDE). In both experiments, clinicians viewed videotapes two actor‐simulated patients responding questions from a standardized diagnostic interview. Study 1, an expectancy effect was found for such that prior about clear‐cut history depression resulted in lower rated current symptoms. addition, halo observed one patient 1 and 2:...
