인간의 활동뿐만 아니라 연안 지역의 경제적 피해와 환경 보존에 미치는 해안 침식의 영향은 여러 국가 정책 중에서 주요 관심사 중 하나이다. 본 연구에서는 거진항 지역에 위치한 해변을 대상으로 영향을 판단하기 위한 해안선 변화 및 해빈 단변에 대한 물리적 조사를 실시하였다. 조사 결과는 해수면 상승, 폭풍, 고파랑 인위적 건축물에 의한 복잡한 원인들에 의하여 거진 해변에서 명확한 침식이 일어나고 있는 것을 보여주었다. 특히, 자산천 하구 부근에서는 표사 유입으로 인한 안정된 해빈폭을 유지하고 있었으나, 나머지 구간에서는 해빈폭의 전진 현상보다는 후퇴 현상이 증가를 하고 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 GW04 지역은 해안침식에 대하여 불안정한 상태에 놓여 있다고 판단되며, DGPS와 다양한 측량 방법에 지속적인 모니터링 관찰이 필요하다고 본다. 본 연구에서는 2011년 강원도 영동 지방의 폭설 기간 동안 GPS 위성 신호의 대류권 지연량 추정으로부터 대기 가강수량을 복원하였다. 폭설이 발생하는 동안에 가강수량과 신적설 발생량과의 상관관계에 대한 분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, GPS를 이용하여 복원한 대류권에서의 가강수량 증가가 발생된 이후에 강설량이 증가하는 추세를 나타냈다. 또한 웨이블릿을 이용한 주기 분석에서는 연구기간에 한해서 가강수량의 주기가 포화수증기압의 주기와 유사한 것으로 검출되었다. 감소와 이에 대응하는 신적설량의 증감은 두 연구 지역인 강릉과 울진에서 모두 다르게 증감하는 경향을 상관 계수는 강설이 발생하지 않는 동안의 결과와는 달리 양의 상관성을 갖는 나타났다.
