A complex dispersal into the Caribbean The settlement of and genetic relationships among pre-European people remain a mystery. After examining 93 ancient genomes dating to range from about 3200 400 years ago, Nägele et al. suggest that at least three separate colonization events, including previously unknown wave, were connected radiation events in North America. two more lineages coexisted Cuba but fully genetically, with later movement region third group South study not only informs on...
<ns4:p>Introduction This study investigates the Je language family, addressing a significant gap in previous research by applying quantitative methods to its classification. Dataset The dataset comprises 516 concepts from 14 languages, primarily sourced Swadesh lists and culturally relevant terms, providing robust foundation for phylogenetic analysis. Methods Bayesian inference NeighborNet were employed analyze dataset. These approaches enabled reconstruction of evolutionary relationships...

Twelve accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) radiocarbon dates from the shell-matrix site of Canímar Abajo (Matanzas, Cuba) are reported. Eleven were obtained directly human bone collagen in burials and one was charcoal recovered a burial context. The stratigraphy presents two episodes activity separated by shell midden layer. AMS fall into compact clusters that correlate remarkably well with stratigraphy. older to between 1380–800 cal BC (2σ) younger AD 360–950 (2σ). compared eight...

Dental modifications in the Caribbean are considered to be an African practice introduced archipelago by influx of enslaved Africans during colonial times. Skeletal remains which exhibited dental default Africans, descendants, or post-contact indigenous people influenced practice. Individual E-105 from site Canímar Abajo (Cuba), with a direct 14C AMS date 990–800 cal BC, provides first unequivocal evidence Antilles prior contact Europeans AD 1492.
