Abstract Membrane fouling is commonly defined as an undesirable formation of deposits on membrane surfaces and it considered a major problem in most brackish, seawater, waste water reclamation applications. Depending nature the scale foulant, processes will lead to decreased fluxes, increased pressures needs, and/or permeate conductivity. In some cases, irreversible damage rejection properties may also occur. adversely affect reverse osmosis systems efficiency result operational costs energy...
First principles calculations of the O surfaces Co-ZnO show that substitutional Co ions develop large magnetic moments which long-range order depends on their mutual distance. The local spin polarization induced at atoms is 3 times larger surface than in bulk, and stability considerably reinforced by Co. Moreover, a robust ferromagnetic state predicted (0001) even absence atoms, correlated with number $p$ holes valence band oxide, highly anisotropic distribution charge spin-orbit coupling.
Abstract Platelets of strontium hexaferrite (SrFe 12 O 19 , SFO), up to several micrometers in width, and tens nanometers thick have been synthesized by a hydrothermal method. They studied combination structural magnetic techniques, with emphasis on Mössbauer spectroscopy X-ray absorption based-measurements including microscopy the iron-L edges oxygen-K edge, allowing us establish differences similarities between our nanostructures commercial powders. The spectra reveal greater contribution...
By means of spin-polarized low-energy electron microscopy, we show that the magnetic easy axis one to three atomic-layer thick cobalt films on Ru(0001) changes its orientation twice during deposition: One-monolayer and three-monolayer are magnetized in plane, while two-monolayer out plane. The Curie temperatures thicker than monolayer well above room temperature. Fully relativistic calculations based screened Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker method demonstrate only for does interplay between strain,...
Total energy calculations for the adsorption of hydrogen on polar Zn-ended ZnO(0001) surface predict that a metal-insulator transition and reversible switch magnetism can be achieved by varying density surface. An top $\text{H}(1\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}1)$ ordered overlayer with genuine H-Zn chemical bonds is shown to energetically favorable. The covered metallic spin polarized. Lower coverages lead nonmagnetic insulating surface, strengthened corrugation topmost layers. Our...
We report on the formation of strong chemical bonds at $\mathrm{Ni}(100)/\mathrm{cubic}\ensuremath{-}{\mathrm{ZrO}}_{2}(100)$ polar interfaces. Ab initio density functional theory calculations demonstrate that both Zr/Ni and O/Ni junctions are energetically stable, predict two different interactions determine interface adhesion. Our results reveal O-Ni ionic formed by Ni electron donation, while Zr-Ni show a mixed character with hybridization contributions.
The occurrence of spin polarization at ZrO2, Al2O3 and MgO surfaces is proved by means ab initio calculations within the density functional theory. Large moments, as high 1.56 μB, develop O-ended polar terminations, transforming non-magnetic insulator into a half-metal. magnetic moments mainly reside in surface oxygen atoms their origin related to existence 2p holes well defined valence band ionic oxide. direct relation between magnetization local loss donor charge makes it possible extend...
This paper presents results from ninety-nine seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) membrane autopsies carried out by the Genesys laboratory in Madrid 2002 and outlines technical issues surrounding fouling scaling of sea water membranes. The authors discuss historical link recent trends changes plant design to potential that may result future. Forty per cent showed presence iron, 33% clay 21% calcium magnesium. principle reason for failure 27% was due microbiological fouling, 19% were abraded, 18%...

Thin films of Co/Ru(0001) are known to exhibit an unusual spin reorientation transition (SRT) coupled the completion Co atomic layers for thicknesses under four layers. By means spin-polarized low-energy electron microscopy, we follow in real space magnetization orientation during growth atomically thick capping on Co/Ru(0001). Capping with noble metal (Cu, Ag and Au) elements modifies SRT depending overlayer thickness material, resulting expanded range structures high perpendicular magnetic...
The purpose of the study was to test for differences in late electrically evoked auditory potentials between subjects exhibiting "good" versus "poor" speech recognition performances with their cochlear implants.Late responses were measured 30 equipped Digisonic (MXM, Antibes, France) implant, 15 whom had scores (i.e., more than 89% correct phoneme identification without lip reading). other poorer less 85%).Differences N1P2 amplitude, as well P1, N1, and P2 latencies, N1-P1 N1-P2 latency...
Flocculants are used in combination with coagulants to agglomerate suspended particles for removal by filtration. This technique is extensively all types of surface waters reduce the silt density index (SDI) and minimise membrane fouling. Although organic cationic flocculants particularly effective, their widespread use applications limited because perceived problems flocculant fouling at causing irreparable damage. Reference material from some major manufacturers on given. Autopsies show...
Using low-energy electron diffraction, we show that the room-temperature $(\sqrt{2}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}\sqrt{2})R{45}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$ reconstruction of Fe${}_{3}$O${}_{4}$(100) reversibly disorders at $\ensuremath{\sim}$450${\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$C. Short-range order persists above transition, suggesting transition is second and Ising-like. We interpret in terms a model which subsurface Fe${}^{3+}$ replaced by Fe${}^{2+}$ as temperature...
This article is devoted to the reformulation of an isothermal version quantum hydrodynamic model derived by Degond and Ringhofer in [J. Statist. Phys., 112 (2003), pp. 587–628] (which will be referred as Euler system). We write under a simpler (differential) form. The derivation based on appropriate use commutators. Starting from Liouville equation, system moments closed density operator which minimizes free energy. Some properties are then exhibited, most them rely gauge invariance property...
In this paper, we consider two recently derived models: the Quantum Hydrodynamic model (QHD) and Energy Transport (QET).We propose different equivalent formulations of these models use a commutator formula for stating new properties models.A gauge invariance lemma permits to simplify QHD irrotational flows. We finish by considering special case slowly varying temperature discuss possible approximations which will be helpful future numerical discretizations.
Imaging the change in magnetization vector real time by spin-polarized low-energy electron microscopy, we observed a hydrogen-induced, reversible spin-reorientation transition cobalt bilayer on Ru(0001). Initially, hydrogen sorption reduces size of out-of-plane magnetic domains and leads to formation stripe domain pattern, which can be understood as consequence reducing anisotropy. Further induces an in-plane easy-axis. Desorbing heating film 400 K recovers original magnetization. By means...
