Cerebral Small Vessel Disease (CSVD) is a chronic, progressive vascular disorder that confers increased vulnerability to psychiatric syndromes, including late-life mood disorders. In this study, we investigated the impact of CSVD on electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) outcomes in patients with late-onset bipolar (BD).

Our study aimed to examine how the presence of Mild Behavioral Impairment (MBI) symptoms influenced outcome late-life depression (LLD). Twenty-nine elderly (≥ 60 years) depressive patients, including eleven (37.9%) with MBI, were recruited and followed-up on average for 33.41 ± 8.24 weeks. Psychiatric severity global functioning assessed, respectively, using Brief Rating Scale (BPRS) Global Assessment Functioning (GAF) scale. BPRS total score significantly decreased from baseline follow-up (...

Abstract Background UV radiation represents the main risk factor for non‐melanoma skin cancers. Chronic exposure induces ‘p53 patches’, i.e. clonal outgrowths of keratinocytes with high nuclear expression mutated p53, which might progress to actinic keratosis (AK) and ultimately squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs). Aims Analysis ingenol mebutate gel (150 500 mcg/g) effects in reduction patches’ inside cancerization field (CF) patients multiple AKs face/scalp or trunk/extremities, order...

Abstract Autoimmune encephalitis (AE) tends to manifest as a mixture of neuropsychiatric and somatic symptoms, either which may predominate, often shows progressive clinical course sometimes leading life-threatening conditions. Catatonic psychotic syndromes, regardless whether associated with dysautonomia, are common manifestations AE, especially concerning the anti-NMDAR subtype. Several autoantibodies targeting different neuronal epitopes have been linked specific their detection is...

Introduction Mild behavioral impairment (MBI) is a neurobehavioral syndrome characterized by later-life emergent neuropsychiatric symptoms, which represent an at-risk state for incident cognitive decline and dementia. Objectives Our obective was to prospectively evaluate the impact of MBI on global functioning in patients ≥ 50 years with major depressive episode (MDE) at baseline. Methods We recruited 51 presenting MDE outpatient clinic 2 nd Psychiatric Unit University Pisa. Then we selected...

Introduction Correlations between neutrophil/lymphocyte, platelet/lymphocyte, and monocyte/lymphocyte ratios (NLR, PLR, MLR, respectively) psychopathological clinical variables in the context of mood disorders are increasingly emerging international scientific literature, being former one most studied. The estimation suicidal risk associated to affective could benefit from such rapidly easily available biomarker inflammation, if significant this regard. Objectives present review would like...

Catatonia is a neuropsychiatric syndrome characterized by broad range of motor, behavioral and cognitive abnormalities. Parkinson’s disease (PD) may show partially overlapping symptomatology. For this reason, catatonia could be misdiagnosed overlooked in patients with severe PD, leading to delay proper treatment benzodiazepines or electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Two cases women PD who have been admitted treated ECT at the University Hospital Pisa are described here. Both had history bipolar...
