Summary Genetically‐modified crops expressing Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) proteins have been widely cultivated, permitting an effective non‐chemical control of major agricultural pests. While their establishment can enable area‐wide suppression polyphagous herbivores, no information is available on the impact Bt crop abandonment in entire landscape matrices. Here, we detail a resurgence cosmopolitan bollworm Helicoverpa armigera following contraction cotton area dynamic agro‐landscapes over...

Abstract BACKGROUND Although the abundance of insect natural enemies in crop fields may be influenced by surrounding landscape and local field management, particularly insecticide use at scale, few studies have examined these factors simultaneously. In this study, we investigated effects context on ladybeetle wheat northern China. RESULTS Woodlots fallow land were most important variables enhancing abundance. We used cumulative percentage types to characterize complexity. Comparing change...

We deployed >50,000 Helicoverpa armigera eggs in maize fields to assess the rate of parasitism by Trichogramma chilonis across 33 sites during a three-year span (2012–2014) northern China. Subsequently, we used partial least squares (PLS) regression approach relationship landscape diversity with composition and potential. The H. T. ranged from 0–25.8%, mean value 5.6%. Landscape greatly enhanced at all four different spatial scales (0.5, 1.0, 1.5 2.0 km radius). Both proportion arable area...

In agroecosystems, predatory ladybeetles play an important role in restraining aphid population growth and suppressing populations. They can adapt to various habitats make use of species associated with multiple host plants during their life cycle. Agricultural landscapes China are composed a mosaic small fields diverse range crops, how plant diversity such has rarely been documented. this study, we examined the relationship between densities ladybeetle two different settings: (i) on...

Abstract BACKGROUND Agricultural land‐use change is an important driver of pest population dynamics, and can alter source–sink dynamics the concentration‐dilution effects landscape. Understanding land use on pests at both landscape regional levels essential for development sustainable management strategies given large changes occurring in cropping systems China. Abstract Changes in land use is an important driver of insect pest population dynamics, but the long-term effects may be contingent on changes some factors. To identify potential change cropping pattern agricultural trends, data from large temporal and spatial scales are needed rarely available. Here, we monitoring across a regional scale independent gradients land-use intensity at landscape level, to investigate expansion area devoted major cereal crops trends polyphagous Helicoverpa...

Resource-continuity over spatial and temporal scales plays a central role in the population abundance of polyphagous pests an agricultural landscape. Shifts land use region may alter configuration key resource habitats, resulting drastic changes pest abundance. Apolygus lucorum (Meyer-Dür) (Hemiptera: Miridae) is cotton northern China that has become more serious recent years following region's cropping systems. However, no evidence from landscape perspective yet been gathered to account for...

Larval survival and oviposition behavior of three genotypes diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella L. (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae), (homozygous Cry1Ac-susceptibile, Cry1Ac-resistant, their F1 hybrids), on transgenic Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) broccoli expressing different levels Cry1Ac protein were evaluated in laboratory. Abstract Insect species diversity is an important part of biodiversity in grassland ecosystems and a key link the food chain. It plays role maintaining function stability ecosystems. Studies have shown that insect closely related to grazing (strength, combination), climate (light, temperature, precipitation, atmosphere), plant (type, height, coverage, biomass), but The specific mechanisms grazing, climate, affecting are not clear, especially how different intensity combinations drive...

Abstract Methods to trace source habitats and movement of parasitic natural enemies in agroecosystems are limited. This study demonstrates that stable carbon isotope analysis offers a valuable new method for revealing the Microplitis mediator (Haliday) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), larval endoparasitoid Helicoverpa armigera Hübner (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), between C 3 4 plants. Results indicate M. with δ 13 values lower than −22‰ originate from plant, whereas those higher −19‰ develop on plant.
