It has been 50 years since the publication of Goffman's influential work Stigma: Notes on Management Spoiled Identity. This special issue celebrates contribution with 14 articles reflecting current state art in stigma research. In this article, we provide a theoretical overview concept and offer useful taxonomy four types (public stigma, self-stigma, by association, structural stigma). We utilize to organize an included issue. Finally, outline new developments challenges research for coming decades.

The present study experimentally examines the impact of emoticons on message interpretation among secondary school students ( N = 105). Furthermore, perceived motives for emoticon use are examined. The present study investigated disclosure patterns among mental health consumers (N = 500) and examined the relationships disclosure, perceived stigmatization, social support, self-esteem. Results suggest that selective optimizes support limits stigmatization. Perceived stigmatization has a detrimental impact on self-esteem, especially for those who are relatively open about their disorder.
