Increased age and female sex are suggested risk factors for drug-induced hepatotoxicity (DILI). We studied the influence of these variables on propensity to develop DILI, as well its clinical expression outcome. All cases DILI submitted Spanish Registry between April 1994 August 2007 were analyzed. Six hundred three (310 men; mean age, 54 years) showed a similar distribution, reaching two peaks in 40- 49-year-old 60- 69-year-old groups. No recorded 20- 29-year-old group. Patients aged ≥60...
The study of 2D materials in renewable energies has been great interest due to the growing demand for energy generation without affecting environment. This includes such as bilayer graphene context thermoelectricity. Here, we thermoelectric properties junctions, particular, Seebeck coefficient, power factor, and figure merit single double junctions well superlattices. We employ hybrid matrix method Landauer–Bütikker formalism. pay special attention contribution holes mentioned properties....
Abstract We present a theoretical investigation of the Goös–Hanchen shift (GHS) experienced by acoustic and optical vibrational modes reflected transmitted from surfaces semiconductor thin film sandwiched between two semi-infinite media. Our study focuses on impact incident angle GHS, considering coupling longitudinal transverse modes. For vibrations, our findings reveal that GHS can reach magnitudes up to seven times larger than thickness 20 wavelength. Besides, it is shown this significant...
The optical-absorption spectra associated with transitions between the n=1 valence subband and donor-impurity band acceptor-impurity conduction were calculated for both infinite finite GaAs-${\mathrm{Ga}}_{1\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}\mathrm{x}}$${\mathrm{Al}}_{\mathrm{x}}$As quantum wells. An absorption edge involving impurities at center of well a peak related edges main features observed in theoretical spectra. Results obtained case an rather different from those previously reported literature.
We propose a simple potential model which reproduces the main properties of electronic structure delta-doped field-effect transistor. On basis selfconsistent calculations we conclude that energies, wavefunctions and other characteristic obtained with proposed are very close to results full calculations.
A certain kind of electron Raman scattering in semiconductors, which the authors have called 'interband-intraband scattering' (IIERS), is discussed detail. The IIERS process differential cross section calculated without particular assumptions on semiconductor band structure, allowing study a wide class materials. Concrete applications are made to cases parabolic and Kane structure models. also studied for critical points three-dimensional case. Special emphasis spectral frequency dependence...
We report two patients with chronic hepatitis C, both nonresponders to a previous course of interferon (IFN), who developed or suffered an exacerbation sarcoidosis while under treatment IFN‐α2a, ribavirin and amantadine. Patient 1: symptoms appeared after week 4 was withdrawn at month 9 due severe weight loss, marked dyspnea, muscular weakness, dryness mouth facial paralysis. Stage III pulmonary polyneuropathy were confirmed. The patient had become steroid dependent nine months cessation the...
Low-frequency phonons in carbon nanotubes are studied using a continuum model which allows consideration of an arbitrary wall thickness for the nanotube. Phonon dispersion relations calculated two archetypal examples nanotubes, $(5,5)$ and $(10,10)$ tubes. The dependence radial breathing mode frequency at $\ensuremath{\Gamma}$ on inverse nanotube diameter is verified within this model; furthermore, we prove it to hold all pure modes thin-shell approximation. effect eigenfrequencies also...
The transfer matrix method is considered to obtain the fundamental properties of 1D Dirac-like problems. case problems in monolayer graphene addressed. main characteristics are analyzed, contrasting them with ones corresponding Schrödinger-like Analytic expressions for transmission coefficient and bound states obtained. continuity between perfect demonstrated general, particular showed single electrostatic barriers. These findings principle can be extended 2D materials Hamiltonian similar...
A long-wavelength model of polar optical modes coupling the vibration amplitude u (the relative displacement vector) and electrostatic potential phi leads to a system coupled differential equations. This is here solved for quantum well without approximations with simultaneous satisfaction mechanical matching boundary conditions. Explicit solutions are given, resulting eigenmodes GaAs-based wells studied in detail. The gives mixed character describing between . Thus one single yields confined...
Abstract The transfer matrix method is considered for obtaining properties of standard wells and barriers in one‐dimensional Schrödinger problems with constant position‐dependent mass. formulae the energy levels a well transmission coefficient barrier are given. continuity demonstrated between virtual bound states mass relation zero gap periodic potential problem corresponding energies non‐periodic one's equal to one. calculations carried out wide class potentials profiles.
The transfer matrix method is usually employed to study problems described by $N$ equations of Sturm--Liouville (MSL) kind. In some cases a numerical degradation (the so called $\Omega d$ problem) appears thus impairing the performance method. We present here procedure that can overcome this problem in case multilayer systems having piecewise constant coefficients. This performed studying relations between associated $\boldsymbol{(T)}$ and other variants. way it was possible obtain matrices...
Abstract Fano resonances of bilayer graphene could be attractive for thermoelectric devices. The special profile presented by such significantly enhance the properties. In this work, we study properties single and double barrier structures. structures are typically supported a substrate encapsulated protecting layers, reducing considerably phonon thermal transport. So, will focus on electronic contribution to charge carriers described as massive chiral particles through an effective...
The method of surface Green function matching (SGFM) is extended to the case an arbitrary number N interfaces so that all SGFM formulae are obtained in a compact N*N matrix (or supermatrix) form ready for practical calculations. As example, shear (surface horizontal) waves Ni-W-Al-Ni structure studied by straightforward application general formulae. range applications physical interest stressed.
We settle a general expression for the Hamiltonian of electron-zone-center optical phonon deformation potential (DP) interaction in case nonpolar core-shell cylindrical nanowires (NWs). On basis long-range phenomenological continuum model modes and by taking into account bulk dispersions, we study size dependence strain-induced shift on electron-phonon coupling strengths Ge-Si Si-Ge NWs. derive analytically DP report some numerical results frequency core vibrational amplitudes. The characterization of the spectrum eigenstates quasiperiodic heterostructures is discussed by focusing on three questions. Arguments are advanced to justify often indiscriminate use different approximants in calculation eigenvalue spectra. It stressed that fractal dimension may be rather inaccurate if high range not included, even physically interest limited low range. question self-similarity critically examined and found have a very validity practice. unique properties Rudin-Shapiro...
