The awareness of the need for robust impact evaluations in conservation is growing and statistical matching techniques are increasingly being used to assess impacts interventions. Used appropriately approaches powerful tools, but they also pose potential pitfalls. We outlined important considerations best practice when using science. identified 3 steps a analysis. University of California, Davis (UCD) line 200 White Leghorn Chickens spontaneously develop a syndrome that has many analogous features to human progressive systemic sclerosis. This is characterized by involution comb, dermal fibrosis, and distal polyarthritis. These three occur within 6 wk after hatching, are accompanied 40% mortality as result vaso-occlusive disease, with development secondary infection peripheral gangrenous lesions. Birds survive greater than 2 mo hatching progressively...

Global conservation priorities have often been identified based on the combination of species richness and threat information. With development field systematic planning, more attention has given to costs. This leads prioritizing developing countries, where costs are generally low biodiversity is high. But many these countries poor governance, which may result in ineffective or larger than initially expected. We explore how consideration governance affects selection global for world's...

The effects were studied of positive end‐expiratory pressure (PEEP) on renal function in eight patients with acute respiratory failure, requiring mechanical ventilation. On application PEEP+ 10 cmH 2 O, central venous increased, systolic blood decreased, urine flow and PAH‐clearance reduced, while inulin clearance remained stable. There was a marked increase fractional sodium reabsorption concurrent decrease osmolal excretion. Fractional free‐water the ratio Uo sm /Po did not change.

Abstract: Recent literature on systematic conservation planning has focused strongly economics . It is a necessary component of efficient because the question about effective resource allocation Nevertheless, there an increasing tendency toward economic factors overriding biological considerations Focusing too narrowly cost may lead us back solutions resembling those obtained by opportunistic choice areas, avoidance which was motivation for development approaches Moreover, are many...

ABSTRACT A strain of mice (S1) was successfully selected for large litter size 31 generations, increasing the mean by 4.2 young per litter. After generation 31, there no further progress and it concluded that a selection plateau had been reached. Realized heritability decreased during course experiment from 0.16 ± 0.06 first 15 generations to 0.00 0.03 30 through 45. — In order explore nature plateau, following groups were derived line S1 at 34 or 35: Upward with inbreeding (SF), random...

Abstract Protected areas are one of the key tools for conserving biodiversity and recent studies have highlighted positive impact they can in avoiding habitat conversion. However, relationship to management actions on ground is far less studied we currently do not know which most crucial success. To investigate this, effectiveness protected area network Madagascar. We estimated individual deforestation, accounting confounding factors (elevation, slope, distance urban centers infrastructure,...

The Global South harbors a large share of imperiled biodiversity. Effective research and conservation in the are negatively affected by weak or turbulent socio-political contexts, such as poor governance and/or high violence levels. There is need to understand how priorities for relate different levels governance, order highlight opportunities challenges biodiversity conservation. We explore spatial overlap between density raptor priorities, unveil effect considering when prioritizing areas...

Bending the curve on biodiversity loss will require increased conservation funding and a wiser resource allocation. Local practitioner expertise be vital in decision-making processes related to funding. Yet, integration of their insights into funder priorities strategies is often insufficient, particularly countries where international comprises bulk support for conservation. More generally, role remains under-analyzed opportunities funder-practitioner dialogue at broad strategic level are...
