The rare pelagic mysid Amblyopsoides ohlinii (W.M. Tattersall, 1951) is reported for the first time off western Mexico and represents record in Pacific Ocean south of Japan Kurile-Kamchatka Trench. So far, this species only has been recorded from seven localities North Atlantic Pacific. A complete description specimen available (a male), including illustrations all appendages SEM images mandibles, provided.
Abstract The genus Metamysidopsis W. M. Tattersall is currently represented by two species in the eastern Pacific: elongata (Holmes, 1910) California, U.S.A., and pacifica (Zimmer, 1918) Peru Panama. distribution some morphological details of both are presented discussed a new described from southern Gulf western Mexico. Commonly used diagnostic characters for analysed based on data available literature. A diagnosis provided three occurring Pacific key to 10 known provided.
Abstract During parasitological surveys of marine fishes and zooplankton in localities the Northwestern Pacific coast Mexico, 28 Gafftopsail pompano ( Trachinotus rhodopus Gill) 50 mysid crustaceans Metamysidopsis frankfiersi Hendrickx & Hernández-Payán) we identified to be infected with adults cystacanths, respectively an acanthocephalan morphologically corresponding genus Rhadinorhynchus Lühe, 1911. DNA sequences small (SSU) large (LSU) subunits ribosomal DNA, cytochrome c oxidase...
Specimens of Petalophthalmus armiger Willemoes-Suhm, 1875, were collected off western Mexico during a deep-water survey. Six males and 32 females obtained from 18 sampling localities in Mexico. The species is redescribed detail, including illustrations body appendages, SEM photographs the mandibles. new material indicates that P. widely distributed area more common than previously thought eastern Pacific. Samples indicate inhabits water far offshore, where total depth exceeds 1000 m. Due to...
The distribution of two species the deep-water shrimp genus Nematocarcinus A. Milne-Edwards, 1881, occurring off west coast Mexico is analyzed based on a large series recently collected material. faxoni Burukovsky, 2000, by far most common and abundant in area it distributed throughout central southern Gulf California entire Baja Peninsula south to 17º10’15”N. Based characteristics observed new samples type material, N. agassizii Faxon, 1893, reinstalled as valid species, no longer...
Mysidopsis gemina Price, Heard & Vargas, 2019, a species of mysid shrimp recorded for Pacific Costa Rica, was collected in western Mexico on October 19th, 2022, at the entrance Gulf California. This is first record north Rica and it represents distribution range extension to approximately 13 degrees latitude. A comparison diagnostic morphological features Rican Mexican specimens given.
The offshore mysid Neobirsteiniamysis inermis (Willemoes-Suhm, 1874) is reported for the first time in western Mexico. A large series of specimens (168 specimens: 44 males, 124 females) was obtained from samples taken with a benthic sled as many 28 localities distributed off west coast Baja California Peninsula (15), Gulf (11), and SW Mexico (2). Only one ovigerous female collected. complete description material, based on mature specimen, provided, including SEM images mandibles, which are...
Two species of the genus Boreomysis, B. arctica (Krøyer, 1861) and californica Ortmann, 1894, were collected in western Mexico. In eastern Pacific, Boreomysis had previously been recorded from Bering Sea to southern California. New records Mexico extend its southernmost distribution limit 17°25’33” N, off SW Mexico, including samples west coast Baja California Peninsula Gulf (25 specimens 12 samples). has reported Alaska Peru, with type locality Central During this study, it was by far most...
The opossum shrimp Euchaetomera plebeja Hansen, 1912 (Mysida; Mysidae) is one of the nine described species currently known in this genus. Until now, it has been considered a rare species, only partly illustrated, from western Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and Chile (one specimen each locality), with possible additional record off Hawaii. In recent study, was recorded abundantly Mexico where collected 20 localities, all Gulf California. A total 109 specimens were mid water nets oblique samples...
Specimens of lophogastrids were collected off Chile, including four first records: Ceratolepis hamata G.O. Sars, 1883 in the vicinity Easter Island, Eucopia unguiculata (Willemoës-Suhm, 1875) Juan Fernández Archipelago, Gnathophausia zoea Willemoës-Suhm, 1873 Concepción, and Neognathophausia ingens (Dohrn, 1870) Valparaíso. Additional records also obtained for Chile species: australis Dana, 1852, grimaldii Nouvel, 1942, Fagegnathophausia gracilis 1875), Paralophogaster sp. Based on these...
