An interlaboratory comparison exercise was conducted to assess the consistency of microplastic quantification across several laboratories. The test samples were prepared by mixing one liter seawater free plastics, microplastics made from polypropylene, high- and low-density polyethylene, artificial particles in two plastic bottles, analyzed concurrently 12 experienced laboratories around world. minimum requirements quantify examined comparing actual numbers these sample bottles with measured...
The aim of this study was to compare the effects an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor and angiotensin II receptor (AT) antagonist on insulin resistance, especially muscle fiber composition in fructose-induced insulin-resistant hypertensive rats. Six-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed either normal rat chow (control) or a fructose-rich diet (FFR). For last two weeks six-week period diet, treated with gum arabic solution as vehicle (control FFR), (FFR+ACE), temocapril (1...
The effects of L-carnitine on the hemodynamic state chronic hemodialysis patients have been debated. In order to clarify effect administered cardiac function and hypotensive episodes during procedure, a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled study was performed for 3 months.TWENTY STABLE OUTPATIENTS UNDERGOING HEMODIALYSIS TREATMENT WERE DIVIDED INTO TWO GROUPS: controls (placebo) treated (L-carnitine 900 mg p.o. daily). After months, reevaluated by echocardiography, were assessed. Free...
Progressive cardiovascular calcification in dialysis patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) is a serious complication; however, the precise mechanism remains uncertain. We tested whether metabolic calcium abnormalities and hypoparathyroidism might have correlation complications ESRD patients.A series of 48 diseases and/or congestive heart failure, aged 36-82 (61 +/- 12) years, 23 male 25 female, were enrolled this study. Serum total (Ca, mmol/l), inorganic phosphate (mmol/l), intact...
The river-lake transitional zone provides a unique environment for the biological community and can reduce pollution inputs in lake ecosystems from their catchments. To explore environmental conditions with high purification potential Lake Taihu indicator species, we examined river-to-lake changes water sediment quality benthic invertebrate communities of four regions. spatial variations observed this study followed previously reported patterns Taihu; northern western regions were...
Liddle's syndrome is a rare form of autosomal-dominant salt-sensitive hypertension.Constitutive activation the amiloride-sensitive distal renal epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) essential for hypertension. Recently, several DNA analysis studies have indicated that there mutation C-terminus either β or γ subunit. We sequenced C-termini and subunits ENaC in Japanese family with hypertension hypopotassemia without excess minerarocorticoids, clinically diagnosed as syndrome. The this was R564X....
Background: It is well known that the physical activity in chronic hemodialysis patients decreases compared to normal subjects. In order investigate effects of <smlcap>L</smlcap>-carnitine on capacity and lipid metabolism, a cardiopulmonary exercise test using bicycle ergometer was performed before after 3 months oral supplementation under double-blind conditions. Methods Results: A total 20 stable...
Abstract The classification and phylogenetic position of Haplotaxidae, an enigmatic family clitellate worms, have long been discussed. We estimate the phylogeny for Clitellata as a whole, using taxon sample adhering to current definitions Haplotaxidae including species attributable Haplotaxis, plus representation other clitellates. Sequences five markers, 4087 bp in total, were analysed by Bayesian Inference. A well-supported tree shows that is polyphyletic, consisting at least separate...
Background: The therapeutic role of <smlcap>L</smlcap>-carnitine (LC) on the anemia chronic hemodialized patients is still controversial. In order to clarify long-term effects LC administration renal anemia, an open, observational 12-month study was performed. Methods: Twenty stable outpatients undergoing hemodialysis were administered 900 mg p.o. daily for 12 months. recombinant human erythropoietin...
A previously unreported freshwater sponge species was discovered from the Tama River in Tokyo Prefecture and Sagami Kanagawa Prefecture, Honshu, Japan, using data specimens National Census on Environments. The identified as belonging to Heteromeyenia latitenta (Potts, 1881).The lack of reports this previous surveys restricted distribution gemmules documented report suggest a recent introduction. This is first record Japan. We describe morphological characteristics compared ITS2 rDNA sequence...
A species of marine limnodriloidine oligochaete, Thalassodrilides cf. briani Erséus, 1992, is recorded from gravelly sand sediments the subtidal zone in Ehime Prefecture, Japan. The present material agrees with original description T. briani, which was first found at Hong Kong, exception that copulatory sacs are oval; not slender. Despite lack genetic data for Kong population, we conclude Japanese specimens conspecific it, or least very closely related, based on morphological considerations....
Three species of semi-aquatic freshwater Enchytraeidae the genera Mesenchytraeus Eisen, 1878, Chamaedrilus Friend, 1913 and Globulidrilus Christensen & Dózsa-Farkas, 2012 are described from stream, wet soil or snow habitats in Ozegahara Mire, an extensive high moor heavy snowfall area central Japan. Among speies, nivalis sp. nov. is distinguished by not having enlarged chaetae spermathecal diverticula, vas deferens with atrial glands 3 4 number club-shaped, ental duct short, sperm...
Marionina biwaensis sp. nov. is described from Lake Biwa. This new species differs all other species: lacking lateral chaetae completely and ventral in II, segment number 38-43, origin of dorsal blood vessel XV or XVI, spermathecal ampullae with irregular protuberances chaetal distribution 1 per postclitellar bundles. In addition, the descriptions M. coatesae, nevisensis, riparia are augmented recorded here for first time Japan.
Six genera of Psychomyiidae (Trichoptera) are known from Japan: Psychomyia, Tinodes, Lype, Metalype, Eoneureclipsis and Paduniella. A psychomyiid larva presumed to be montanus was collected in Japan. We compared the COI sequence data this putative E. with those identified adults associate adult larval life stages. Molecular evidence is presented support relationship between larvae Illustrations characters a key character matrix mature Japanese psychomyiids provided.
A noninvasive method for the diagnosis of cardiac calcinosis, a life-threatening complication in hemodialysis patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), has not, as yet, been firmly established. We tested whether whole body scanning 99m-technetium methylene diphosphonate (MDP) might visualize calcinosis. In 19 consecutive chronic ESRD (13 males and 6 females, aged 40–81, mean 63 ± 8 years) cardiovascular [mitral annular calcinosis and/or calcified aortic valve (n = 4), cardiomyopathy 1),...
A species of freshwater oligochaete, Propappus volki Michaelsen, 1916, is newly recorded from sand and gravel bottoms several unpolluted streams in Honshu, Japan. The present material agrees well with the previous descriptions this except that spermathecal ampulla shorter proboscis more elomgate than those described earlier. This first record family Propappidae Coates, 1986 (New Japanese name: Ko-himemimizu-ka) genus 1905 Ko-himemimizu-zoku) It provides evidence oligochaete fauna Japan...
Enchytraeus ohtakai sp. nov. (Enchytraeidae, Clitellata, Oligochaeta) was discovered in the organic matter of a wastewater treatment facility plums processing plant Honshu, Japan. The is characterized by high content and low salt concentration. Morphological analysis DNA-sequencing fragment COI barcoding gene show that new species belongs to E. albidus group. Within this group it differs in: vasa deferentia restricted XII, preclitellar bundles with mostly three chaetae, postclitellar two or...
Four new species of Eoneureclipsis (Trichoptera: Psychomyiidae) are described from Japan: E. montanus n. sp., shikokuensis okinawaensis sp. and yaeyamaensis Illustrations male wing venation genitalia both sexes provided. A distribution map is also presented for the 4 species.
