Epidemiological studies found that hepatitis E virus genotype 3 (HEV-3) infection was associated with chronic and cirrhosis in immunocompromised patients. Our study aimed to investigate the relationship between host immunosuppressive status occurrence of HEV-related hepatitis. Here we describe a successful experimental study, using cynomolgus monkeys previously treated tacrolimus, potent calcineurin inhibitor immunosuppressant, infected Brazilian HEV-3 strain isolated from naturally pigs....
Hepatitis E virus genotype 3 (HEV-3) infection usually causes self-limited acute hepatitis. In immunosuppressed patients, HEV-3 can rapidly progress to chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis. southern Brazil, data on HEV seroprevalence are scarce.Testing for RNA antibodies (anti-HEV) was performed 320 HIV-infected patients followed at the HIV/AIDS Service of Federal University Rio Grande between 2012 2013, as well 281 blood donor samples obtained in 2015. Variables associated with anti-HEV...
