Dynamic vapor sorption and thermoporometry probe complementary dimensions of water interaction with cellulose. While is primarily sensitive to the first hydration layers, nanometric water-filled pores. In this article, these analytical techniques are detailed applied model mesoporous materials a wide spectrum celluloses. Correlations between explored. dynamic sorption, celluloses present general characteristic time desorption. On other hand, they highly variable times indicating that...
Abstract Chemithermomechanical (CTM) processing was used to pretreat sugarcane bagasse with the aim of increasing cell wall accessibility hydrolytic enzymes. Yields pretreated samples were in range 75–94%. Disk refining and alkaline‐CTM alkaline/sulfite‐CTM pretreatments yielded materials 21.7, 17.8, 15.3% lignin, respectively. Hemicellulose content also decreased some extent. Fibers presented external fibrillation, fiber curling, increased swelling, high water retention capacity. Cellulose...
Sugar cane bagasse is recalcitrant to enzymatic digestion, which hinders the efficient conversion of its polysaccharides into fermentable sugars. Alkaline‐sulfite pretreatment was used overcome sugar recalcitrance. Chemical and structural changes that occurred during were correlated with efficiency digestion polysaccharides. The first 30 min pretreatment, removed approximately half initial lignin 30% hemicellulose seemed responsible for a significant enhancement cellulose level, reached 64%....
Plant cell walls contain water, especially under biological and wet processing conditions. The present work characterizes this water in tissues of sugarcane stalks. Environmental scanning electron microscopy shows tissue deformation upon drying. Dynamic vapor sorption determines the equilibrium kinetics moisture uptake. Thermoporometry by differential calorimetry quantifies nanoscale pores. Results show that from top internodes stalks are more deformable, slightly sorptive to moisture,...
Sugar cane internodes have great morphological heterogeneity and different cell types that respond in varied ways to pretreatment processes. At the outermost region of internode there are epithelial cells a ring cortical cells. Toward central part number vascular bundles surrounded by parenchyma The innermost regions richer sugar were evaluated according their response alkaline-sulfite consequences for material recalcitrance. experimental data set included 4 hybrids dissected into 3...
Abstract This article presents our experience on teaching biochemical sciences through an innovative approach that integrates concepts of molecular cell biology and protein chemistry. original laboratory exercise is based the preparation affinity chromatography column containing F‐actin molecules immobilized chitin particles for purifying skeletal myosin II. It favors active learning extraction purification, such as muscle contraction, cytoskeleton structure, its importance living cell. also...
Introduction: Data on survival and prognostic factors of patients hospitalized with HF in Brazil are scarce. Aims: To determine the in-hospital all-cause mortality rate, renal replacement therapy (RRT) its association a population admitted to hospitals from Brazilian National Public Health System (SUS). Methods: We included adult documented diagnosis (ICD-10 I50.X) any public hospital SUS Hospital Information (SIHSUS) registry April 2017 August 2021. RRT intermittent hemodialysis, continuous...
