Abstract The rate of caesarean section delivery (CSD) is increasing worldwide. It remains unclear whether disruption mother-to-neonate transmission microbiota through CSD occurs and it affects human physiology. Here we perform metagenomic analysis earliest gut microbial community structures functions. We identify differences in encoded functions between microbiomes vaginally delivered (VD) neonates. Several functional pathways are over-represented VD neonates, including lipopolysaccharide...

Perturbations to the colonization process of human gastrointestinal tract have been suggested result in adverse health effects later life. Although much research has performed on bacterial and succession, less is known about other two domains life, archaea, eukaryotes. Here we describe succession by bacteria, archaea microeukaryotes during first year life (samples collected around days 1, 3, 5, 28, 150, 365) within infants delivered either vaginally or cesarean section using a combination...

Abstract Congenital generalized lipodystrophy (CGL) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by near complete absence of adipose tissue from birth. Recently, mutations in 1-acylglycerol-3-phosphate O-acyltransferase 2 (AGPAT2) and Berardinelli-Seip congenital (BSCL2) genes were reported pedigrees linked to chromosomes 9q34 11q13, respectively. There are limited data regarding phenotypic differences between the various subtypes CGL. Furthermore, whether there additional loci for...

We have previously presented evidence that most of the 24S-hydroxycholesterol present in circulation originates from brain and elimination this oxysterol occurs liver. Plasma levels decline by a factor about 5 during first decades life. The concentration enzyme cholesterol 24S-hydroxylase is, however, constant year life, reduced thus cannot explain decreasing plasma infancy. In work we tested hypothesis may reflect size relative to capacity liver eliminate substance. It is shown here...

Abstract We describe a fatal case of encephalitis that might be correlated with primary human metapneumovirus (HMPV) encephalitis. Postmortem HMPV RNA was detected in brain and lung tissue samples from the patient. Furthermore, found culture fluids cells coincubated tissue.

Aerosolised prostacyclin (PGI2) was administered to two neonates with pulmonary hypertension dilate the vessels selectively. The alveolar-arterial oxygen gradient fell from 73.2 (patient 1) and 71.8 kPa 2) 33.8 26.7 respectively. Systemic blood pressure remained stable while declined in patient 1. When inhaled, PGI2 seems improve oxygenation, mainly due reduction of intrapulmonary shunting.

Parenteral nutrition–associated cholestatic liver disease (PNAC) is considered to be multifactorial in origin, and its incidence has decreased during the past years (1). The pathogenesis of PNAC, however, remains poorly understood.Commercially available intravenous fat emulsions are soy-based preparations containing phytosterols (PS) sitosterol, campesterol, sigmasterol at a total concentration approximately 1000 μmol/L (40 mg/dL). observation high plasma levels PS patients with receiving...

A neonate suffering from herpes simplex virus type 2 disease with central nervous system involvement developed an early recurrence under acyclovir therapy. Isolates the cerebrospinal fluid and skin lesions were resistant, while viruses blood trachea not. Acyclovir combined foscavir followed by long-term suppressive therapy supported normal neurological development.

Congenital generalized lipodystrophy (CGL) is characterized by the absence of adipose tissue from birth due to a hypothetical differentiation block. The genetic causes CGL are still not completely understood. Subepidermal, fibroblast-like cells were prepared sc an infant with CGL. Preadipocytes and foreskin fibroblasts three healthy patients, respectively, used as controls. Adipose was induced in cultured exposure 10 nm insulin, 200 pm T3, 1 μm cortisol, 2 rosiglitazone.
