Researchers in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are under-represented scientific literature. Mapping of authorship articles can provide an assessment data ownership research capacity LMICs over time identify variations between different settings.Systematic mapping maternal health interventional from 2000 to 2012, comparing country study affiliation first authors. Studies on systems or promotion; community-based activities; haemorrhage, hypertension, HIV/STIs malaria were included....
Despite access to antiretroviral therapy, mortality from cryptococcal meningitis (CM) is high among persons with advanced HIV infection in sub-Saharan Africa. Cryptococcal antigen (CrAg) present several weeks months before the onset of symptoms and can be screened prevent life threatening meningitis. Recently, World Health Organisation recommended that a new rapid CrAg lateral flow ‘‘dipstick’’ assay (LFA) used screen HIV-infected CD4 counts less than 100 cells/µL. In this paper, we describe...
Extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) is common in HIV-infected patients, especially at lower CD4 cell counts, yet often difficult to diagnose with certainty. A 35-year-old man presented dyspnoea and constitutional symptoms of (TB). Laboratory investigations included a positive HIV test count 138 cells/μL. Chest radiography revealed globular-shaped heart bilateral pleural effusions, while echocardiography confirmed massive pericardial effusion. The new Xpert MTB/RIF (Xpert) assay detected...
Mapping studies describe a broad body of literature, and differ from classical systematic reviews, which assess more narrowly-defined questions evaluate the quality included in review. While steps involved mapping have been described previously, detailed qualitative account methodology could inform design future studies. In HIV infection, progression of immunodeficiency is associated with increased risk paucibacillary and disseminated forms tuberculosis (TB). As a result, the clinical presentation may be atypical conventional diagnostic assays often unreliable, resulting in significant treatment delays. Here, we report case HIV-associated immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome TB meningitis. Although smear molecular were negative, Mycobacterium was identified our patient using new...

Cutaneous small-vessel vasculitis (CSVV) is a of small vessels that classically presents with purpuric papules on the lower extremities. It may occur in setting several triggers such as infection, drug exposure, and collagen vascular disease.1 Of all cases CSVV, fewer than 5% are thought to be paraneoplastic.2 Most these associated hematologic malignancies (90%), whereas remainder solid organ (10%).3 We present rare case paraneoplastic CSVV specifically occurred recurrent metastatic breast cancer.
Abstract Background: Nutrients involved in one-carbon metabolism - folate, vitamins B6 and B12, methionine, choline, betaine have been associated with multiple cancer sites. However, no study has assessed the association between these nutrients risk of melanoma. Thus, aim this was to evaluate intake melanoma within two prospective cohorts: Nurses’ Health Study (NHS) Professionals Follow-up (HPFS). Methods: The cohorts included a total 81,685 women NHS (1984 2010) 49,617 men HPFS (1986 2010)....
