The Pattern Informatics algorithm, which has recently shown promising performance for earthquake forecasting in Southern California, been used to detect the locations where precursory seismic activity occurred preceding 1999 Chi‐Chi, Taiwan, earthquake. Using method as presented this paper, epicenter of Chi‐Chi main shock was found exhibit signatures anomalous related activation and quiescence Taiwan region over a time span about 6 years before shock. A strategy making intermediate‐term...

Abstract Under the inhibition of Cu +2 ‐induced LDL oxidation‐guided fractionation, two new flavone glycosides with galloyl substitution were isolated from dried fallen leaves Terminalia catappa L. Their structures established as apigenin 6‐ C ‐(2″‐ O ‐galloyl)‐β‐ D ‐glucopyranoside ( 1 ) and 8‐ 2 ), together four known glycosides, isovitexin, vitexin, isoorientin, rutin, on basis spectroscopic method. Compounds showed significant antioxidative effects. IC 50 2.1 4.5 μM, respectively.

Abstract The 2010 M L 6.4 Jiashian earthquake struck southern Taiwan and caused some damage due to the strong ground shaking. Since epicenter is located in a relatively low background seismicity area, we want investigate rate changes associated with main shock by applying region‐time‐length pattern informatics algorithms. Both temporal spatial results exhibit signatures of abnormal change related seismic activation quiescence prior shock. In addition, patch coincides region Coulomb stress...

Abstract Rupture directivity of earthquakes could amplify ground shaking and cause serious earthquake hazards. Its timely information is therefore great importance for early alerts emergency responses. To this end, we test the feasibility using near‐field (<25 km) motion data from a dense low‐cost seismic network in Taiwan to constrain provide warning far‐field areas. The method simple robust, based on real‐time map interpolation directional attenuation regression analysis. Applications...

Abstract Geoelectric self‐potential (SP) signals are sensitive to natural and anthropogenic factors. The SP spectral characteristics under the different factors in Taiwan were investigated, scalings correlated with urbanization level, seismicity, crustal deformation. ambient noise models first established by estimating probability density functions of spectrograms at each frequency. effects on understood comparing various conditions, such as precipitation, urbanization, electric trains....

Abstract Background/Aims: Oxidative DNA damage by reactive oxygen species is involved in the process of liver carcinogenesis. Methods: Parameters such as survival rate, tumour area, foci, 8‐hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8‐OHdG), caspase‐3,...

To demonstrate a concern in geological interpretation after statistical hypothesis testing, writing that “geological hypotheses are never ‘true’—they will always be rejected if lots of data available,” P. Vermeesch ( Eos, 90 (47), 443, doi:10.1029/2009EO470004, 2009) considers null H 0 earthquake occurrences not depending on the day week.
