It is expected that during strong earthquakes, longitudinal reinforcing steel in reinforced concrete structural elements may undergo large tension and compression strain reversals. Because of insufficient tie spacing, this repeated loading into the inelastic range lead to buckling bars. Even though problem has been studied by several researchers, most these studies have based on monotonic behavior. In research, coupons were machined from bars conforming ASTM A 706 specifications. These...

A case of symbiosis between the centrolenid frog Centrolenella fleischmanni and drosophilid fly Drosophila sp. nov. is documented. The lays her eggs near surface frog's egg mass. Upon hatching, larvae feed upon embryos, killing many or all them. Pupation occurs within mass before embryos hatch. Flies emerge about 10-13 days after maggots hatch, tadpoles have left For frogflies relationship appears to be obligatory, but not so for frogs, which derive no obvious benefit from association.

Studies on the dentition, hemipenis and vertebrae of snake Conophis never- manni indicate that this species cannot be associated with nor any other known genus. The generic name Crisantophis is proposed for species. In a recent paper I questioned status nevermanni Dunn basis hemipenial structure single specimen, KU 86181 (Villa, 1969). regarded as closer to Coniophanes than but, pending further study, no taxonomic changes. Two additional male specimens, recently collected in Nicaragua,...

To evaluate the association between Colombia's third wave when Mu variant was predominant epidemiologically (until 75%) in Colombia and COVID-19 all-cause in-hospital mortality. In this retrospective cohort, we included hospitalized patients ≥18 years with SARS-CoV-2 infection March 2020 to September 2021 ten hospitals from three cities Colombia. Description analysis, survival, multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed epidemic mortality.A total of 25,371 included. The...

The sympatric cyprinid fishes, Rhinichthys atratulus and R. cataractae, have never been known to hybridize in nature. However, genetic compatibility has confirmed as the two species can be freely hybridized laboratory. Our cytological studies revealed that both a diploid chromosome number of 50 there are no apparent gross karyotypic differences which might account for their reproductive isolation Life history data suggest barriers natural hybridization probably behavioral ecological, not genetic.

Two new subspecies of Tretanorhinus nigroluteus are described on the basis their color and head scutellation. T. n. dichromaticus from Roatan Island, Honduras, has a dichromatism hitherto unknown in genus. obscurus Corn Islands, Nicaragua, is darkest known form nigroluteus. * In his revision continental forms genus Dumeril Bibron, Dunn (1939) divided Cope into two subspecies, lateralis Bocourt. Smith Gillespie (in Smith, 1965) third mertensi. Additional mate- rial, Guanaja reveals exis-...

Albinistic specimens are reported in Nicaragua for the first time two snakes, Boa constrictor imperator Daudin (Boidae) and Leptodeira annulata rhombilera Gunther (Colubridae). A previously, albinistic Crotalus durissus Linnaeus was reexamined to verify its status. We support opinion of Hoge that type pulvis Ditmars ( = unicolor van Lith de Jeude) probably not collected 20 miles inland from Managua, thus should be removed any list Nicaraguan forms.
