Introduction. Cranial reconstruction with a cranioplasty is performed to repair skull defects after decompressive craniectomies. Aims. To retrospectively review all cranioplasties in our institution over 10 years and analyse the complications factors that cause complications. Patient methods. Two hundred forty-three were from 2000 2010, follow-up of at least 1 year. Age, sex, comorbidities, material, site defect, time between decompression cranioplasty, rate collected database. Fischer's...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The global average life expectancy has been increasing steadily as the quality of healthcare continues to improve. However, there is a paucity data looking at surgical fixation thoracolumbar spine fractures in patients ≥80 years (super-elderly). Aim this study look whether higher rate complications from group patients. METHODS: We performed retrospective who underwent 2019 2023. Patients were dichotomized into those 80 old and above (super-elderly) younger than...

Chronic subdural hemorrhage (SDH) or hematoma is a condition that affects elderly individuals. With advances in medical care, the number of nonagenarians and centenarians will increase. However, surgical treatments this age group are associated with high rates morbidity mortality. Because no data available on survival among patients chronic SDHs who undergo drainage receive only conservative goal study was to determine 90 years older symptomatic SDHs.The authors conducted retrospective...

The choice of programmable or nonprogrammable shunts for the management hydrocephalus after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) remains undefined. Variable intracranial pressures make optimal difficult. Programmable have been shown to reduce problems with drainage, but at 3 times cost shunts. All patients who underwent insertion a ventriculoperitoneal shunt SAH between 2006 and 2012 were included. Patients divided into those in whom inserted. rates revisions, reasons adjustments settings...

Thoracic spinal meningiomas (TSMs) are common intradural extramedullary tumors and usually surgically treated. Although surgery generally results in positive outcomes, some patients experience residual or new neurological impairments. The authors conducted a multicenter cohort study to investigate prognostic factors that affect functional recovery following TSM resection. A retrospective from 3 tertiary centers was included all who underwent resection between 2015 2023. Patients had minimum...

The present study aimed to assess the immediate/early clinical outcomes and surgical results of 11 consecutive patients who underwent palliative cervical spine surgery for symptomatic spinal metastases. This single-surgeon retrospective case series analysed 12 procedures that were performed metastasis in patients. All surgeries carried out at Singapore General Hospital, Singapore, from 2007 2013. Preoperative medical oncological assessment/staging was on each patient--all presented with...

OBJECTIVE The introduction of ventriculoperitoneal shunts changed the way hydrocephalus was treated. Whereas much is known about causes shunt failure in first few years, there a paucity data literature regarding cause late failures. authors conducted study to find out different failures their institution. METHODS A 10-year retrospective all patients who were treated authors' hospital between 2006 and 2015 conducted. Late included those had undergo revision more than 5 years after initial...

Abstract Background Gliomas consist of a heterogeneous group tumors. This study aimed to report the incidences O 6 -methylguanine-DNA-methyltransferase (MGMT) promoter methylation, 1p19q co-deletion, isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) gene mutations, and inactivating mutations alpha-thalassemia/mental retardation syndrome X-linked (ATRX) in high-grade gliomas an ethnically diverse population. Methods Records patients who underwent surgery for from January 2013 March 2017 at our institution were...

Subdural drains are used to reduce recurrence after surgical evacuation of chronic subdural hematoma. There is a small risk parenchymal injury. We hypothesize that using subgaleal with low active suction (-50mmHg -100mmHg) may be safer alternative while still maintaining efficacy in preventing recurrence.
