Objectives: This study investigated trauma symptom trajectories of children 2–16 years old following admission to pediatric intensive care and identified factors that predicted a child’s trajectory. Design: Prospective longitudinal design. Setting: Two tertiary PICUs in Brisbane, Qld, Australia. Patients: Children admitted PICU for longer than 8 hours. Measurements Main Results: Maternal reported child posttraumatic stress symptoms ( n = 272) on the Trauma Symptom Checklist Young were used...
A risk-stratified approach to colorectal cancer (CRC) screening could result in a more acceptable balance of benefits and harms, be cost-effective.To determine the effect consultation general practice using computerised risk assessment decision support tool (Colorectal RISk Prediction, CRISP) on risk-appropriate CRC screening.Randomised controlled trial 10 practices Melbourne, Australia, from May 2017 2018.Participants were recruited consecutive sample patients aged 50-74 years attending...
This paper explores the willingness to use and pay for HIV Self-testing (HIVST) among Australian gay bisexual men (GBM). Bivariate univariate multinominal logistic regression of data from an online survey was performed. Thirty-one (13%) had never tested 41.9% (88) were testing sub-optimally by guidelines. Half (58.4%, 136) heard HIVST, however, 56.2% (131) reported with sub-optimal (OR=2.13; p < 0.01) never-testers (OR=2.01; 0.10) significantly more likely do so than optimal-testers. Most...
The net impact on population health and system costs of vaporized nicotine products is uncertain. We modeled, with uncertainty, the cost impacts liberalizing market for a high-income country, New Zealand (NZ).We used multistate life-table model 16 tobacco-related diseases to simulate lifetime quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) at 0% discount rate. incorporated transitions from never, former, current smoker states to, from, regularly using literature estimates relative risk disease incidence...
The impact febrile neutropenia (FN) has on the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) children with cancer and their families is poorly understood. We sought to characterize course child parent HRQoL during following FN episodes.Data were collected in multisite Australian Predicting Infectious ComplicatioNs Children Cancer (PICNICC) study. Participants enrolled between November 2016 January 2018. Child Health Utility (CHU9D) was used assess (N = 167 events) Assessment Quality Life (AQoL-8D)...
Abstract The aim of this article is to provide education clinicians about certain barriers restricting the use advanced targeted treatments in Australian health care. For illustrative purposes, focuses on dermatological conditions, but content relevant all specialties that treat inflammatory and chronic diseases. Barriers care discussed result a lower than necessary standard for patients Australia despite important advancements medicine.
Abstract Background The study aimed to estimate the comparative costs per positive diagnosis of previously undetected HIV in three testing regimes: conventional; parallel and point care (POC) testing. regimes are analysed six settings Australia where infection is concentrated but with low prevalence. Methods A cost model was developed highlight trade-offs between test economic efficiency from a provider perspective. First, an number tests needed find true (previously undiagnosed) made....
Recent data suggest the use of radiotherapy alone (RT) in Early-Stage Follicular Lymphoma is declining. Cost-effectiveness analysis treatments has not been performed. We constructed a partitioning model (15-year horizon) to compare RT, combined-modality therapy (CMT) and immunochemotherapy with rituximab maintenance (ICT + RM) from PET-staged cohort Australian Alliance. Lifetime direct health care costs, quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs) were...

Background: The impact of febrile neutropenia (FN) on the health-related quality life (HRQoL) children with cancer is poorly understood. We sought to characterise course child and parent HRQoL during following FN episodes.Method: Data were collected in multisite Australian PICNICC study. Multiple, discrete episodes per patient allowed. was assessed using Child Health Utility (CHU9D) (n=167) Assessment Quality Life (AQoL-8D) their parents (N=218) at three time points: 0-3 days, 7-days 30-days...
