The increasing production of iron ore has led to the accumulation tailings (IOTs), which pose significant environmental and safety risks when stored in dams. This study investigates potential IOTs as a precursor alkali-activated binder systems, aiming provide sustainable solution for mining waste management. Industrial calcium carbide lime sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) were used activators varying concentrations (Na2SiO3: 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%; lime: 5%, 7.5%, 10%), with curing conditions 23...

This study evaluated the stabilization of iron ore tailings (IOTs) with an alkali-activated binder (AAB) produced from sugar cane bagasse ash, hydrated eggshell lime, and sodium hydroxide solution. Unconfined compressive strength, split tensile initial shear stiffness, mineralogy, chemical composition, microstructure IOTs-AAB were evaluated. Strength values up to 6.59 MPa achieved after 28 days-curing at 40 °C. Reducing porosity increasing content improved overall mechanical behavior....

This study evaluates the use of rice husk ash (RHA)-eggshell lime (ESL) and RHA-commercial (CL) as alternative binders for clayey soil stabilization, well performance soil-binder mixtures under acidic attack. A central composite design was carried out to analyze reactivity by batch tests with a sulfuric acid solution. Physical mechanical behavior evaluated compaction test unconfined compressive strength (UCS). Reactivity demonstrated better neutralization contaminant acidity ESL. The highest...

Applying Portland cement to soils is an excellent technique when it necessary improve local soil for the construction of stabilized pavement bases and have a support layer shallow foundations. Consoli et al. (2007, 2009, 2010) developed rational dosage methodology artificially cemented based on porosity/cement index, which can be applied unconfined compressive strength, as well splitting tensile strength. Furthermore, unique qt /qu relationship was found, independent content voids ratio....

Water treatment plants (WTPs) produce thousands of tons sludge annually, which is destined for landfill disposal, an environmentally and economically impractical alternative. Chemical, mineralogical, morphological characterization besides environmental classification has been performed WTP it was evaluated application potential in building materials, from a literature review. The carried out by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, diffraction, scanning electron microscopy analysis, leaching...

The foundry industry generates large amounts of residual byproducts, such as waste sand (WFS). This high generation has motivated studies concerning the disposition WFS, which in turn can be used for road subbases. Nevertheless, paving applications are still limited, especially regarding behavior WFS when added to a mixture crushed materials. Hence, objective this study was evaluate reuse mixtures with materials, applied granular layers granulometric stabilized pavements. materials and were...

Geopolymers (GPs) are versatile materials that have low intrinsic porosity. This characteristic can be used as a motivator for the development of porous GPs, since separation processes require adsorbents with high specific area. Thus, this work aimed to elucidate how acid attack and calcination affect microstructure GPs. For purpose, GP was exposed H2SO4 200 °C, being later characterized in terms morphology, mineralogy, functional groups, textural properties. Acid etching proved effective...
