Abstract Permeability is one of the most difficult properties to predict, especially in carbonate reservoirs. The reliable data permeability, obtained from laboratory measurements on cores, do not provide a continuous profile along depth formation. After a short historical outline of the development ideas on compaction clays and shales it is shown that exponential porosity-depth dependence compacted expressed by Athy's law can be derived using standard methods statistical physics. The main result paper states expresses maximum-entropy equilibrium state pores in rock, an irreversible process where clay particles tend towards statistically defined final equilibrium. Connections with classical theory consolidation are pointed out.

Abstract The structural pattern of rainfall data exhibits random fluctuations over time and space. Utilizing concepts fractal theory, it has been possible to identify characteristics beyond simple statistical indicators their randomness. objective this research was the spatial variation Hurst exponent, extracted through standard wavelet techniques from series daily in state Zacatecas, Mexico. exponent for 26 locations using reference auto-affine traces—in particular, wavelets method. A general technique is developed to retrieve the fractal dimension of self-similar soils through microwave (radar) scattering. The based on a mathematical model relating dimensions georadargram that scattering structure. Clear and different signatures have been observed over four geosystems (soils sediments) compared in this work.

Using a combination of laboratory experiments and computer simulation we show that microwaves reflected from transmitted through soil have fractal dimension correlated to the soil's hierarchic permittivity network. The mathematical model relating ground-penetrating radar record mass structure is also developed. signature scattered correlates well with some physical mechanical properties soils.
