Abstract We report a genome-wide association scan in over 6,000 Latin Americans for features of scalp hair (shape, colour, greying, balding) and facial (beard thickness, monobrow, eyebrow thickness). found 18 signals reaching significance ( P values 5 × 10 −8 to 3 −119 ), including novel associations. These include loci shape balding, the first reported beard thickness. A newly identified locus influencing includes Q30R substitution Protease Serine S1 family member 53 PRSS53 ). demonstrate...
Since their discovery in 2004, carbon dots have attracted strong interest the scientific community due to characteristic properties, particularly luminescence and ease of synthesis derivatization. Carbon can be obtained from different sources, including natural products, resulting a so-called ’green synthesis’. In this work, we obtain tomato juice order nanoparticles with antioxidant capabilities antioxidants present that fruit. The material is characterized regarding nanoparticle size...
Periostin is an extracellular matrix protein highly expressed in collagen-rich tissues subjected to continuous mechanical stress. Functionally, periostin involved tissue remodeling and its altered function associated numerous pathological processes. In orthodontics, plays key roles the maintenance of dental it mainly those areas where tension or pressing forces are taking place. this regard, high expression essential promote migration proliferation periodontal ligament fibroblasts. However...
The isolation and structural elucidation of a structurally new desertomycin, designated as desertomycin G (1), with strong antibiotic activity against several clinically relevant resistant pathogens are described herein. This natural product was obtained from cultures the marine actinomycete Streptomyces althioticus MSM3, isolated samples intertidal seaweed Ulva sp. collected in Cantabrian Sea (Northeast Atlantic Ocean). Particularly interesting is its Mycobacterium tuberculosis clinical...
Cyclodextrins are a well-established system which form inclusion complexes with many guest molecules. This property can be easily exploited to develop drug delivery systems. Additionally, carbon dots (CD) low-toxic photoluminescent product have been used as luminescent tags. The combination of cyclodextrins and allows obtaining new nanoplatform, biocompatible material, both capabilities, increasing well the internalization by cells CD, induced cyclodextrins.

In the present work we have obtained carbon dots (CDs) from glutathione and modified their surface with both β-Cyclodextrin methyl-3-(4-(2-(5-((methylsulfonyl)oxy)pentyl)- 1,3-dioxo -2,3-dihydro- 1H-benzo[de]isoquinolin -6-yl)piperazin-1-yl)propanoate (FP), a pH-sensitive molecule. acted as glucose source, which facilitated entrance of CDs within cells and, eventually, can be used drug-carrier to deploy bioactive compounds in cytoplasm. FP fluorescence varied according pH medium distinguish...
Pancreatic islet transplantation has been considered for many years a promising therapy beta-cell replacement in patients with type-1 diabetes despite that long-term clinical results are not as satisfactory. This fact points to the necessity of designing strategies improve and accelerate islets engraftment, paying special attention events assuring their revascularization. Fibroblasts constitute cell population collaborates on tissue homeostasis, keeping equilibrium between production...
Fibulins not only function as molecular bridges within the cellular microenvironment but also influence cell behavior. Thus, fibulins may contribute to create a permissive for tumor growth can stimulate different mechanisms that impede progression. This is case with Fibulin-5, which has been shown display both tumor-promoting and tumor-protective functions by are totally defined. We show new evidence on displayed Fibulin-5 in MCF-7, T47D MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells including inhibition of...
Fibulin-2 participates in the assembly of extracellular matrix components through interactions with multiple ligands and promotes contacts between cells their surrounding environment. Consequently, identification processes that could lead to an altered have a major impact not only maintenance tissue architecture morphogenesis but also pathological situations including cancer. Herein, we investigated ability secreted metalloproteases ADAMTS-4 ADAMTS-5 digest Fibulin-2. Using vitro approaches...
The composition of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in central nervous system (CNS) has several features that make it unique. For instance, is remarkable for presence proteoglycans such as versican, brevican, and neurocan, some which have been identified substrates different members ADAMTS family secreted metalloproteases. Previous studies associated ADAMTSs with repair CNS, including recovery following degradation glial scar tissue stimulation axonal growth after brain injury. However,...
Interaction between extracellular matrix (ECM) components plays an important role in the regulation of cellular behavior and hence tissue function. Consequently, characterization new interactions within ECM opens possibility studying not only functional but also pathological consequences derived from those interactions. We have previously described interaction fibulin2 ADAMTS-12 vitro effects that using models cancer. Now, we generate a mouse deficient both evaluate their absence different...
Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), provides valuable biochemical information for biomedical analysis. It aids in identifying cancerous tissues, diagnosing diseases like acute pancreatitis or Alzheimer's, and has applications genomics, proteomics, metabolomics. A combination of FTIR chemometrics constitute an approach that shows promise fields biology, forensics, food quality control, plant variety identification. The study aims to explore the feasibility ATR-FTIR...
Journal of Cancer Metastasis and Treatment is an open access journal, focusing on basic clinical studies related to cancer cell, cell biology, oncology, radiation therapy radiology, obstetrics gynecology, pediatrics, surgery, hematology, neuro-oncology, etc.
Different components of the tumor microenvironment can be either tumor-promoting or tumor-suppressive agents depending on factors which are not fully understood. Fibulins extracellular matrix from different tissues and constitute a clear example this dual function. In fact, fibulins may support growth abolish progression malignant cells crosstalk between their surrounding stroma through mechanisms that remain to elucidated. Among all fibulins, fibulin-5 contains particular structural...
