Abstract The very widely exploited Suzuki biaryl coupling reaction typically requires catalysts based on palladium, but there is an increasing desire to replace this metal with a more sustainable, less expensive alternative, iron being particularly attractive target. Here we show that simple iron-based catalyst N-heterocyclic carbene ligand can be used excellent effect in the of aryl chloride substrates boronic esters activated by organolithium reagent. Mechanistic studies suggest possible...

A one-pot synthesis of various 5,10-diaryl-5,10-dihydrophenazines (DADHPs) from diarylamines has been achieved by using an iron-catalyzed C–F amination. Homodimerization magnesium diarylamides, followed defluorinative intramolecular cyclization (double ortho amination) in the presence catalytic FeCl2 and stoichiometric 1,2-dibromoethane, affords corresponding DADHPs with complete regiocontrol. The unique high reactivity fluorine over other halogens indicates that amination proceeds via SNAr...

A simple iron-based catalyst with an N-heterocyclic carbene ligand can be used to excellent effect in the previously unknown Suzuki biaryl coupling of aryl chloride substrates boronic esters activated by organolithium reagent. Mechanistic studies suggest possible involvement Fe(I) as lowest oxidation state on catalytic manifold and show that challenging step is not activation substrate, but rather transmetallation step. These findings are likely pave way for a renaissance iron-catalysed...

If the factors controlling decay in single-molecule electrical conductance G with molecular length L could be understood and controlled, then this would a significant step forward design of high-conductance wires. For wide variety molecules conducting by phase coherent tunneling, decays following relationship = Aexp-\b{\eta}L. It is widely accepted that attenuation coefficient \b{\eta} determined position Fermi energy electrodes relative to frontier orbitals bridge, whereas terminal anchor...
