Key Teaching Points•Prior cardiac surgery or atrial fibrillation ablation can predispose patients to the development of atypical flutter.•Although an eccentric coronary sinus activation pattern during flutter suggests a left circuit, entrainment from right atrium should still be performed exclude biatrial circuit.•Suspicion for heightened in setting prior extensive anteroseptal atrium, as it promote reentry over Bachmann bundle superiorly and interatrial septum inferiorly.•We report unique...
Geriatric conditions, such as frailty and cognitive impairment, are prevalent in older patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). We examined the prognostic value of geriatric conditions for predicting 1-year mortality bleeding events these patients.SAGE (Systematic Assessment Elements)-AF study is a multicenter cohort which enrolled individuals (mean age 75 years, 48% women, 86% taking oral anticoagulation) 65 years AF CHA2DS2 -VASc score 2 or higher from clinics Massachusetts Georgia, USA...
Background. The clinical impact of the distressed communities index (DCI), a composite measure economic well-being based on U.S. zip code, is becoming increasingly recognized. Ranging from 0 (prosperous) to 100 (distressed), DCI’s association with cardiovascular outcomes remains unknown. We aimed study DCI presentation and in adults severe symptomatic aortic stenosis (AS) undergoing transcatheter valve intervention (TAVR) an affluent county New York. Methods. population included 286 patients...
The association between chronic kidney disease (CKD) and outcomes following transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in the setting of newer-generation heart valves (THVs) is not well known. Accordingly, we sought to assess impact CKD severity on adults undergoing TAVR with THVs.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF) frequently co-occur in older individuals. Among patients with AF, HF increases risks for stroke death, but the associations between incident cognition physical impairment remain unknown. We aimed to examine cross-sectional prospective HF, cognition, frailty among AF.The SAGE-AF (Systematic Assessment of Geriatric Elements AF) study enrolled 1244 AF (mean age 76 years, 48% women) from five practices Massachusetts Georgia. at baseline was...
Epicardial catheter ablation of ventricular tachycardia (VT) is a well-established technique for variety myocardial substrates including ischemic cardiomyopathy. VT has several potential life-threatening complications 1.5% incidence coronary artery (CA) injury. A 68-year-old woman with cardiomyopathy, disease status post left circumflex PCI, and multiple endocardial ablations presented to our institution persistent slow hemodynamic compromise.
