PURPOSE To determine the incidence of clinical cardiotoxicity from anthracycline chemotherapy in children with cancer and to identify associated risk factors. PATIENTS AND METHODS The study population consisted 6,493 who had received on Pediatric Oncology Group (POG) protocols 1974 1990. Cardiotoxicity, defined as congestive heart failure not due other causes, abnormal measurements cardiac function that prompted discontinuation therapy, or sudden death presumed was determined by a review...

Three infants with supraventricular tachycardia and congestive cardiac failure were given verapamil intravenously. In two of the infants, rhythm was converted to sinus, but third infant required direct current cardioversion. However, each demonstrated hemodynamic decompensation shortly after administration cardiopulmonary resuscitation. All three patients stabilized their controlled digoxin. doing well at time follow-up evaluation, there no evidence structural heart disease. The risk in...

The purpose of this study was to establish normal echocardiographic measurements valvular motion, cavity dimensions, great vessel diameters, and right, left septal wall thicknesses children ranging in size from infants full growth. group composed 205 normal, healthy for whom echocardiograms subsequent were performed a standardized manner. following performed: ventricular end-diastolic end-systolic dimension, right anterior thickness, posterior maximal atrail aortic pulmonary artery diameter,...

Schizophrenia is associated with deficits in cortical plasticity that affect sensory brain regions and lead to impaired cognitive performance. Here we examined underlying neural mechanisms of auditory using combined behavioural neurophysiological assessment, along neuropharmacological manipulation targeted at the N-methyl-D-aspartate type glutamate receptor (NMDAR). Cortical was assessed a cohort 40 schizophrenia/schizoaffective patients relative 42 healthy control subjects fixed reference...

Performance on two multiple-choice testing procedures was examined during unit tests and a final examination. The Immediate Feedback Assessment Technique provided immediate response feedback in an answer-until-correct style of responding. format which served as point comparison the Scantron form. One completed by students introductory psychology courses whereas all used form Students tested with forms correctly answered more examination questions were repeated from earlier than did forms....

Deficits in N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) function contribute to symptoms and cognitive dysfunction schizophrenia are associated with impaired generation of event-related potential measures including auditory mismatch negativity. Parallel studies the NMDAR agonist D-serine have suggested that sensitivity these glutamate-based interventions is related symptomatic response. Bitopertin a selective inhibitor glycine transport. Schizophrenia patients have deficits in cognitive function that are a core feature of the disorder. AX-CPT is commonly used to study cognition schizophrenia, and characteristic pattern behavioral ERP response. Ensemble perception-the encoding of objects by their group properties-is known to be resistant outlier noise. However, this resistance is somewhat paradoxical: how can the visual system determine which stimuli are outliers without already having derived statistical properties ensemble? A simple solution would that ensemble perception not a simple, one-step process; instead, detected through iterative computations identify items with high deviance from mean and reduce weight in representation...

Students responded to a questionnaire after completing classroom examinations using either Scantron forms or the Immediate Feedback Assessment Technique. Factor analysis of students' responses yielded six scales unrelated grades and not differing by sex, course, instructor. evaluated on latter technique scored significantly higher measuring ease understanding response requirements, perceived fairness preference for an answer-until-correct procedure, enhanced involvement in test-taking process.

Behavioral studies have shown that statistical properties of object groups are perceived accurately with brief exposure durations. This finding motivated the hypothesis ensemble perception occurs rapidly in vision. However, precise timing remains unclear. Here, we used superior temporal resolution electroencephalography to directly compare processing individual processing. The P3b was chosen as a particular component interest, it is thought measure latency stimulus evaluation. Participants...
