Obesity is a major threat to global health and metabolically associated with glycerol homeostasis. Here we demonstrate that in human adipocytes, the decreased pH observed during lipolysis (fat burning) correlates increased release stimulation of aquaglyceroporin AQP10. The crystal structure AQP10 determined at 2.3 Å resolution unveils molecular basis for modulation-an exceptionally wide selectivity (ar/R) filter unique cytoplasmic gate. Structural functional (in vitro vivo) analyses disclose...

Conventional bulk protein structure determination methods are not suitable for understanding the distinct and diverse interactions of proteins with interfaces. Notably, interfacial activation is a feature common to many lipases involving movement helical "lid" region upon contact hydrophobic surface expose catalytic site. Here we use specificity vibrational sum frequency generation spectroscopy (VSFG) directly probe conformation

Phosphorus has long been the target of much research, but in recent years focus shifted from being limited only to reducing its detrimental environmental impact, also looking at how it is linked global food security. Therefore, interest finding novel techniques for phosphorus recovery, as well improving existing techniques, increased. In this study we apply a hybrid simulation approach molecular dynamics and quantum mechanics investigate binding modes phosphate anions by small intrinsically...

Forward osmosis (FO) membranes have gained interest in several disciplines for the rejection and concentration of various molecules. One application area FO that is becoming increasingly popular use to concentrate or dilute high value compound solutions such as pharmaceuticals. It crucial settings control transport over membrane avoid losses valuable compounds, but little known about mechanisms larger biomolecules with often flexible conformations. In this study, two chemically similar...
