Avian infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) causes considerable economic losses in the poultry industry worldwide, including Taiwan. IBV is among most important pathogens chickens, and it spreads rapidly flocks. In addition to dozens of known serotypes, new viral variants have emerged due evolution antigenic variation IBVs. Therefore, development a sensitive, specific, easily performed assay crucial for rapid detection surveillance infections. A simple immunochromatographic strip (ICS) was...
The purpose of this study is to target career women with metabolic syndrome (Mets) risk factors and investigate the effectiveness using a health management platform (HMP) improve behavior reduce Mets factors. This adopted structure randomized control trial, targeted full-time aged ≥ 20 years, who possessed factors. Intervention was performed via an Internet-based HMP, changes in 1.5 months 3 after intervention were analyzed.A total 66 participated study. At months, HMP group displayed better...
Abstract Canine melanoma is a malignant tumour that exhibits aggressive behaviour, and frequently metastasizes to regional lymph nodes distant sites. Currently, there are no effective treatments or practical prognostic biomarkers for canine melanoma. The enzyme kynurenine 3‐monooxygenase (KMO), which plays central role in the tryptophan metabolism, has previously been identified as main pathogenic factor neurodegenerative diseases; however, it recently found be positively associated with...
Feline coronavirus (FCoV), the pathogen for feline infectious peritonitis, is a lethal agent that can cause effusions in pleural and abdominal cavities domestic cats. To study epidemiology of FCoV Taiwan, 81 FIP-suspected sick cats with effusive specimens were recruited to test infection using immunofluorescence staining reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction as detection methods, viral RNAs recovered from conduct genotyping phylogenetic analysis based on spike (S) protein gene. The...
The aim of the present study is to evaluate effect a hospital-based therapeutic lifestyle program on women with metabolic syndrome (MetS).We conducted for MetS. They all received low calorie, balanced diet and participated in regular aerobic exercise 8 weeks. Anthropometric indices, blood pressure, biochemical data were collected. A paired t test was used statistical analysis. p value less than 0.05 considered statistically significant.Forty-four took part program. All components MetS had...
We investigated biodegradability and new bone formation after implantation of tetrapod-shaped granular artificial (Tetrabone®) or β-tricalcium phosphate granules (β-TCP) in experimental critical-size defects dogs, which were created through medial lateral femoral condyles. The defect was packed with Tetrabone® (Tetrabone group) β-TCP (β-TCP received no implant (control group). Computed tomography (CT) performed at 0, 4 8 weeks implantation. Micro-CT histological analysis conducted to measure...
Papillomaviruses (PVs) usually cause benign proliferative lesions in the stratified epithelium of various animal species. However, some high-risk types PVs have been proven to lead malignant transformations. In dogs, several canine papillomaviruses (CPVs) identified and are suggested as one risk factors for development squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs). present study, full genomes two CPV9 strains from recurrent SCCs Dog 1 skin viral papilloma (viral plaque) 2 were sequenced. Alignment...
The effect of tetrapod-shaped alpha tricalcium phosphate granules (Tetrabones® [TB]) in combination with basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF)-binding ion complex gel (f-IC gel) on bone defect repair was examined. Bilateral segmental defects 20-mm long were created the radius 5 dogs, stabilized a plate and screws implanted 1 following: TB (TB group), bFGF solution (TB/f f-IC (TB/f-IC group). Dogs euthanized 4 weeks after surgery. Radiographs showed well-placed equal osseous callus formation...
Abstract Background Three-dimensional (3D) printing techniques have been used to produce anatomical models and surgical guiding instruments in orthopaedic surgery. The geometric accuracy of the 3D printed replica may affect planning. This study assessed an acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) canine tibia model using fused deposition modelling (FDM) evaluated its morphological change after hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O ) gas plasma sterilisation. tibias six cadavers underwent computed tomography...
Abstract Background Babesia gibsoni (B. gibsoni) is an intraerythrocytic protozoan parasite of dogs that causes fever and hemolytic illness. A timely diagnosis essential for the disease management. Results Here, we report a QubeMDx PCR system which enables rapid, sensitive reliable B. near dog patient. Within 30 min, this diagnostic assay was able to detect as low 0.002% parasitemia blood. Using clinical samples, new validated demonstrate 100% agreement with real-time PCR. Conclusions This...
In this study, we aimed to determine the effect of trehalose coating and optimal dose basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), an osteoinductive protein, loaded onto tailor-made bone implants for implant-induced formation in vivo. We fabricated α-tricalcium phosphate (11 mm diameter with 2 parallel cylindrical holes). bFGF 0, 1, 10, 100 or 200 μg/implant was incorporated into without a coating, these were subsequently implanted dogs correct temporal defects same size shape. Four weeks after...
Leptospirosis is an important infectious zoonosis that may cause life-threatening illness in both humans and animals. This study aimed to identify the serovars of Leptospira using microscopic agglutination test (MAT) effect season on serum-positive cases detected National Taiwan University Veterinary Hospital from August 2008 September 2015. also compared characteristics serum-negative cases. Among 159 suspected cases, 78 (MAT titer [Formula: see text]) 81 were identified. In most common...
Circadian rhythm is usually regulated by the environmental light-dark cycle. Congenitally anophthalmic miniature pigs provide a valuable model for study of factors affecting circadian rhythms in absence visual exposure to This investigated growth and daily behavior patterns Lee-Sung with congenital anophthalmia. Growth 5 (LSP) anophthalmia (LSP-A) 10 normally developed (LSP-N) was assessed when they were 1 through 6 mo old. Behavioral studies using digital video recording completed sexually...
Vaginal cytology can facilitate determination of the estrous stage in dogs. Although some studies recommended vaginal cotton swab smear (VCSS) method for sample collection, veterinarians prefer vulvar stamp (VSS) its convenience and to avoid causing trauma or introducing pathogens from posterior vagina anterior vagina. However, best authors’ knowledge, no study has compared results obtained using VCSS VSS. In this study, two methods were used collect samples 81 All slides blindly examined by...
